Newly Relocated To Malta- Advice and Hello!

Lamby736

Hello Fellow Expats, and community!

My partner and I have officially relocated in Malta now, and its been about a month in.  We are in Mellieha, and we are really enjoying the community.  After living in many many countries all over the world, we have settled here, and are very impressed by the culture, the people, the economy, CLEANLINESS, efficiency and economy, especially work opportunities for us, in a country we can see ourselves bringing opportunities to others as well, as we are in the film industry.

A few questions and some advice!

-We dont have a car, so wondering if there are any good cost efficient, NON TOURIST car leasing/rental companies that can offer proper longterm rates.

-For registering an E bike or E scooter, is this necessary, and how do we do this?  I cannot seem to find any stores for e bikes or e scooters (stand up) bearby.

-We have some items to ship from Los Angeles, not immediate, but perhaps a dozen boxes or less to Malta.  We are looking for some cost efficient, SLOWBOAT, cheap, time is not a factor here, and wondering if you can recommend any options.

-We have been to the main cities: Valletta, St Julian, St Pauls Bay, Sliema, etc., but wondering if there are any other recommendations to look into this time of year.  Are there any Christmas markets, I could not find any specific details on dates, etc., and also concerts, we are looking for traditional Maltese music as reference for our film, so if any locals can assist with where to go, it would be helpful!

-Lastly, I am also currently working with a tutor, online, privately to learn Maltese, and I was hoping to find someone who would be more interactive and actually go to places, interact, put the language into practice, rather than a classroom, as I learn better that way, and I will need to be practically using it for work with crew members.

We are very interesting in meeting new locals, expats, other couples and families! We are in the film industry, but we have many other hobbies and would love to make some new friends!

Malta's Christmas markets are typically held in December and include the main events like the Valletta Waterfront Christmas Village, Natalis Notabilis in Rabat, and the Woodland Christmas Market at Ta' Qali. These markets offer festive stalls with local crafts, seasonal food, live entertainment, and family activities like ice skating and rides.

Major markets

  1. Valletta Waterfront Christmas Village: (November 30, 2025 – January 4, 2026) Features a large Christmas tree, Santa's house, ice skating, and numerous stalls for crafts, food, and sweets.

  1. Natalis Notabilis in Rabat: (December 5–14, 2025) A popular and large event with artisanal stalls, traditional Maltese treats, light displays, and performances.

  1. Woodland Christmas Market in Ta' Qali: (December 6–14, 2025) A sustainable market in the Ta' Qali National Park with eco-friendly products, food, and free children's activities like workshops and face painting.

Rules for e-scooters here https://www.transport.gov.mt/land/vehic … ooter-4345 e-bikes dont have similar rules.  Also research the grants you can get for buying one. Xiaomi ones are good quality and popular, sold by Scan Malta in Birkirkarra

Here long term rentals are called leases, google for that. See Mizzi Lease

Gozo has a interesting Christmas village that's worth attending once, Victoria also usually some nice things happening

As for "CLEANLINESS", wow, you must not have been to many European places, Malta is filthy, absolute embarrassment.
