Immigrating to Malta

Hsaid1

Hello everyone,

My partner and I are seriously considering relocating to Malta within the next year, and we’d love to hear real experiences from people who’ve been through the process.

About us:

I’m an American/Egyptian filmmaker and artist.

My partner is an American + German citizen, a vocalist/musician.

We currently live in the U.S. and plan to move together as a married couple under the EU-family residency route.

We’re looking for any insight on:

How your residency process went (timelines, documents, steps with Identità).

How long it took to receive your residence card after applying.

Whether you used a lawyer or handled everything yourself.

Recommendations for Maltese immigration attorneys.

Costs we should expect (apostilles, insurance, translations, legal fees).

Tips for apartment hunting and settling in the first months.

Any cultural/administrative surprises we should prepare for.

We’d really appreciate any experiences or advice — especially from U.S. expats or mixed U.S./EU couples. Thank you so much!
