Travel to Schengen Areas while waiting for Stay Permit

Can i travel to other Schengen countries for a few days with my Italy Type D visa while waiting for my Stay Permit? I entered Italy on 11th March, and my visa is valid till 1st August

SINGLE ENTRY more than 90 days stay ITALIAN LONG-TERM STUDY VISA (type D): With this visa, you can travel from Italy only within the Schengen Area during the first 90 days of your visit; later, once you hold an Italian permit of stay (see below) you will be able to travel freely.
Mine is multipe entry. Can i travel after my first 90 days in Italy?
