Obtaining entry visa

Y'all,

we are trying to obtain an entry/long-term visa for italy. The confusion arises when the rules say we must have a "contract" for residence. This means to us, a 6-month signed contract for a property we have never seen. We wonder if a hotel reservation is good enough to satisfy this requirement.

so far we have been given the run-around on this forum by telling us we are using the wrong topic. Great. Just trying to get one simple question answered.

Hotels do not work and you have to have a year lease on a non-vacation property. The leases may be broken easily if you do not keep it for a the year but move to a new home you buy. You generally need to go to Italy, secure the rental and then return home to process the application. Where are you planning to more to?

We're trying to move to Italy and are waiting to see the requirements of the Digital Nomad Visa, which have not been released yet. An Italian attorney told us that they are very hard for Americans to get because we are "unable to secure the necessary SSA docs"...but she didn't clarify what the SSA docs are! Where are you planning to more to?
