Hi everyone. I am thinking of moving to Iceland to pursue a masters degree. I am just wondering if there is much part time work available in rural Iceland? I understand the economy is in a bad place there at the moment but surely there must be something?
Also are students from EEA countries allowed to work unrestricted? Thanks very much
where are you talking when you say "rural"? What kind of work were you thinking?
as an EEA passport holder it's no problem legally to work, but I think finding a part time job in, say, Bildudalur might be difficult, especially if you don't have a car. Rural here is VERY rural.
Well I am applying to study at Hólar university college. I'm not sure how "rural" it is. Is Akuyeri far from there? I will definitely be getting a car.
As for what kind of work. Anything at all, but I have experience in fish farming.
Sauðárkrókur is about an hour and a half from AEY, weather permitting (and this is a very real factor in the wintertime). It's a decent size town for Iceland, about 2k people, but I'm not sure how much is going on up there outside of tourist season. The school might be able to advise more since I assume you are not the first foreign student in search of part time work.
Cool thanks! Whats the weather like up there? Is it much different from Reykjavik? I was there once last summer for 3 days and it was roasting!! I assume it gets damn cold in winter though. I'm just thinking if I was using a car to get to work would it be worth paying for something with 4WD.
