Uber, Grab, Didi ?

As far as I know, in Greece, Uber drivers are basically licenced taxi drivers. Prices are regulated and the billed amounts are roughly the same.

UberX service does not exist in Greece.

So yes, you can use Uber or Freeone app, but you will end up with a regular Taxi.

Frankly speaking, I never booked a cab in Athens, since public transportation are good. On the other hand, car rentals begins at 8 EUR per day in low season...  Regards, T.

Yes, I have to agree with the public transport being very good. Been travelling back and forth to Greece for 10 years now and I think we got a taxi once (late checkout hotel to airport). On the islands of Crete, Rhodes, and Corfu public transport was regular, cheap, and easy to figure out. On the main land loads of public transport around Athens, and from Corinth hourly trains all day. For off the beaten track, we hire a car. Even if it’s just to get us from where we are staying to leave at train station. Cheaper and more convenient. But that’s all just our experience.

Did try to book a car through Wisecars pick up at Athens international airport but because I am now 76 years old there was just nothing on offer !

So while overseas I use Uber/Grab/Didi and down under I am lucky to still be able to drive my Corolla (15 years old but only 166k at the odometer)...

@rogergarinmichaud Have you tried using booking [dot] com and go to the car rental section? In the search settings, you can tell them your exact age, as well as the usual info for pickup and collection etc. Maybe they will offer you something?

Thanks for the tip ! Will try that but I have the feeling that is going to have the same results because the EU is now talking of a ban on drivers over the age of 75

I just tried to rent a car at Agrigente Sicily and got the same negative result as when I tried renting a car at Athens airport

On their Faq they say: "Rental car age restrictions in Greece limit anyone under 21 and, in some cases, over 75 from renting a car."

Fill in the search form and uncheck the 25-69 box to enter your age.

You should receive some quotes.

Alertnatively you can try https://www.bsp-auto.com/ .

You can also book directly with the companies like Budget/Avis/Eterprise etc...

The minimum age requirement to drive all vehicles is 23. There is no maximum rental age. A young driver fee of 12.40 EUR plus airport surcharges per day apply for all renters between the age of 21 and 22 wishing to rent the categories Compact, Intermediate, Standard, Full Size, Premium and Luxury, excluding commercial vans. The young renter fee does not apply to Mini and Economy vehicles. "

So yes, even if you're 75, you should be able to rent a car in Greece !

Auto Europe did offer some choices and even emailed me a quote, that's great !
