Hello everyone,

Finding affordable housing in Bristol is number one priority for newcomers. Tell us more about the estate market in your district/city/region.

What are the most desired places to live? What are the most affordable ones? What is the average cost of a rented flat? And what is the average sale price for an appartment or a house? Could you tell us more about local real estate policies/procedures? What about property tax or residency tax in Bristol?

Most of the suburbs in Bristol are very family friendly, with lots of open green parks and facilities for kids. I would recommend Henleaze for a suburban family neighbourhood with a selection of local shops and cafes. Clifton is a more expensive area as the houses are larger old town houses and it is closer to the centre of Bristol. For families I would avoid Redland as it is full of student housing and you never know how many students will move into your street.

If you are a student and looking for accommodation, there are a few real estates you can use that are specific for students. The university of Bristol has an accommodation centre that charges no extra fees! It is important to avoid the letting agency, DIGS, as they are renowned for messing students around; charging them extra money, and refusing to provide a quality standard of living.

Housing in Bristol is relatively expensive as Bristol is so well connected to London with the direct train, you can be in Paddington in an hour. Many working people commute from Bristol to the surrounding cities; Bath, Cardiff, London. So be prepared to spend a bit more than in other cities in the UK.
