Quality of customer service in Cyprus

Cheryl

Hello everyone,

Customer service can say a lot about everyday life in Cyprus, and for many expats, it’s something that could take time to get used to. In order to help expats and soon-to-be expats to adjust to local expectations, we invite you to share your insights.

How would you describe customer service in Cyprus?

Are staff generally friendly and helpful, or more formal and direct?

How do businesses handle complaints or requests for refunds?

Do expats get treated differently than locals?

Any tips on how to get the best service in Cyprus?

Share your experiences and stories, whether positive, challenging or funny!

Thank you for your contribution.

Hello Cheryl and everyone,

From my experience, customer service in Cyprus can vary quite a bit depending on the business. Many staff are genuinely friendly and helpful, especially in smaller shops and local businesses, but sometimes service can feel slower or more formal compared to other countries.

When it comes to complaints or refunds, most businesses handle them politely if you remain calm and clear in your request. Patience and politeness usually go a long way.

Expats are generally treated the same as locals, though having a basic understanding of Greek or being friendly in English can help smooth interactions.

A few tips for the best service:

Approach requests politely and with a smile.

Try to communicate in Greek if possible; locals appreciate the effort.

Build relationships with local staff; repeated visits to the same place often result in quicker and friendlier service.

Overall, customer service can be warm and personal once you get used to local expectations.
