Recent Cyprus citizenship interview experiences?

Hi all,

If you’ve gone through the Cyprus citizenship interview recently — either fast-track or regular — I’d really appreciate your insight.

I’m trying to understand what to expect, specifically:

How long did your interview take?

What kind of questions were asked? (Exact questions if you remember would be super helpful)

Was the interview purely in Greek?

Did the examiner stick to Greek or also use English?

Were you allowed to answer in English, or is broken/basic Greek acceptable?

Any do’s and don’ts you picked up?

Any other random tips or surprises from the process?

Basically, I’m trying to understand how strict or flexible the whole thing is and how language-heavy it gets.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can share their recent experience!

I can't speak to the interview itself, but in case it helps anyone reading this thread: applicants also have to pass a separate written culture exam ("Basic Elements of the Contemporary Political and Social Reality of Cyprus").

- 25 multiple-choice questions, in Greek only

- 45 minutes, pass mark 60% (15 of 25)

- Fee EUR 20, paid through JCC Smart when you apply

- Next sittings: Saturday 21 November 2026, then 6 March 2027 (applications 11-18 January)

What trips most people up is the Greek wording rather than the facts. For example, Cyprus is a προεδρική δημοκρατία (presidential republic), while Greece is a προεδρευόμενη (parliamentary) one, and Γενικός Εισαγγελέας (Attorney-General) is not Γενικός Ελεγκτής (Auditor-General). The Ministry of Education publishes the official syllabus (εξεταστέα ύλη), and it is worth reading in Greek.

Good luck to everyone applying.
