Bringing your car to Cyprus.

Definitely leave the car behind. You have a simple choice of :-

1. Visiting a Cyprus based dealer and selecting from a vast selection, new or used. Thereby being mobile almost instantly.

OR : -

Hiring until your U.K origin vehicle is cleared by Cyprus authorities. Understand that Cyprus want you to buy here. Why would they make it easy to import. Plus resale price is better for vehicles originating from Cyprus

I have done both and for me it's a no brainier.

Leave it behind avoid the beaurocracy frustration and repeated journeys to Transport dept and customs...

I've bought two new cars here in 11years and virtually 11years trouble free motoring.... .. no brainer to.me

I brought my 10 year old Diesel as PMR recommended it. Car prices here are higher than the UK. My old car was worth 1800.00 in the UK and here cold be 6500.00e. We packed all the fragile valuables in the car which made it easier but had to have 40 foot container rather then 20 foot so additional costs there

Issues were

18 months to clear customs. We could use it while waiting but monthly visits to customs to extend temp import

Very high road tax due to age and fuel type

There was no VAT or tax to pay but we cannot sell the car for 5 years

Given what we have experienced I would say bite the bullet and sell in the UK and get one when you arrive. Given second hand cars are expensive here I would go for new if you are looking at a 3-5 year car second hand as it will have warranty. There are plenty of older cars as they last way longer here than the UK. Only issues is they might look immaculate but under the skin they still have the same age issues with engine hoses A/C etc. For an easy less hassle life go new if you want to spend that money. I have seen an MG new for 16500e

Electric does not seem good as there are very few charging places around Cyprus. Depends on the area you live in.

You could buy an old banger to bring stuff over and then scrap it. I've known a few people who have done that in a couple of countries. Here in Austria, they gave them to the fire brigade for training purposes. 

It cost me £1800 to bring an estate car over 5 years old full of personal goods through Autoshippers ltd nearly 3 years ago. Your car comes with 3 other cars in a container to lighten the load.

I've found second hand cars over here to be expensive and high mileage but everybody to their own.

Worth a go if you don't mind the documentation and visiting the import office on a regular basis.

It's a nice day when you get your plates changed for Cyprus plates.
