Where can I buy a vintage car?

Chailling

Hi, we are new in Bulgaria trying to look for a vintage car to purchase, since they are super cute and easier to go through cute little towns when we go visit Greece. But I do not wish to pay big money for it. Can someone give us some guidelines, where we can find them and what we need to look out, and is it possible to change the transaction to automatic, please?

Hey there,

It is an interesting idea, but what exactly do you mean by "vintage car", because in the real sense of this word similar cars can be found only in private collections in Bulgaria.

otherwise, if you just mean an used car in a good mechanical condition, then your options are limitless.

You can either visit some of the big car re-sellers in Gorubliane (Sofia), or Dupnitza, or check websites like cars.bg, mobile.bg. olx.bg, car-market.bg, etc. ...

What to look for is an interesting question, but since you're asking it, then I assume you're not a car mechanic.

In this case it is good to check the clutch, the brakes, the suspension, the steering, the lights, and the work of the engine. Looks like it will be better if you take a car mechanic with you.

As for changing the transmission from manual to automatic, I guess it is possible, but the cost will be comparable to that of the car.

Any way, in case you find a real vintage car in a good condition, then trying to change the transmission from manual to automatic will be almost a crime :))

Hi Kristiann,

This is my first time here. Excuse my confusing you with the question. I guess I am looking for cars from 70’s or 80’s small cute cars. Nothing fancy. Doesn’t need to be in great condition, we are not interested to spend too much money. I was trying to post the photo here, but without success.

Sincerely,
Chailling

Hi Chailling,

I didn't understand you quite well too, that's why I asked about the idea. But since you've cleared it out, then here are some of your options, that can still be purchased in Bulgaria for less than 1000 EUR:

1. Jiguli /Fiat family/

2. Lada / Fiat family/

3. Fiat

4. Moskvitch family

But if you want to go for a real Bulgarian classic, then this is the best choice:

Alpin 110, made in Bulgaria

the last one is very hard to find, and definately costs more than 1000 EUR.

An old colleague of mine had the Lada version - he used to joke that he could double the value of the car ............ by filling it with petrol. :)

Hahahaha looking at the price of petrol in The Netherlands it's a very good joke! :D

I love those tiny cars, but I am affraid I have to squeeze myself in the driversseat ;) Well I saw a fellow countryman of mine who was almost 2 meters tall squeeze himself in a Mini Cooper so it is possible  :D

Yeah - I'm in Holland at the moment; the price of fuel is frightening.
