I moved to Indonesia, and hunted for expat mates.
There were few in my area.
I got to know more and more locals, making friends as I went on.
I don't much care either way about meeting other expats any more.

Don't waste time on my mistake of looking for other expats. You're likely to make new friends very quickly.
