Yes, there are many different types of service dogs, and are specifically described as a dog who is specifically trained tasks that mitigate their handlers disabilities. In my case, by dog alerts me to a serious medical condition I have, and then responds if I have an episode. He keeps me safe and protects my head, and also alerts to others that I need help, as I'm unable to.

That's merely one example of the life saving tasks service dogs are taught. Many perform physical assistance, medication or object retrieval. It's amazing how dogs can be trained well to help those of us with disabilities lead far more independent lives! I hope this explanation helps.

Any breed of dog can be a service dog, there are no exempt breeds or mixes.

@joysarnelli we are so overrun with fake service dogs, then you suggest this person have her vet lie by omission regarding the breed of her dog, so she may break the law in PR! A person is either honest or not. Shouldn't pick the parts of the law you just want to follow..

@ReyP if you have a disability with mobility issues it would be fine for your SD to get you a beer! There is no moral high ground regarding your dog's tasks.

@frogrock enough people are lying regarding SD. Why would you suggest that the OP lie and break the law in PR? If her breed of dog is banned then she shouldn't take it.

Hi, I have just made a permanent move to Puerto Rico and an temporarily staying in San Juan but I want to move to the southwest area of the island and do not know who to contact.

Also, I love dogs and have had great ones who were my best friend’s. I agree with having support dogs for people who really need a support dog.
