Hello All,
I am a realtor from Montreal and contemplating retiring in Panama in 4 years with a pensionado visa. I am thinking coming next December to scout and hopefully make some decisions. I am considering the Chiriqui province. I am seeking a moderate climate which allows occasional daily trips to a coast for recreation and fishing. Could someone help me concentrate on finding that area ? Am I asking for the impossible ?

I will be speaking Spanish by the time I arrive. I do not wish to isolate myself with expats only and I am open to socialise with locals as well. Thanks

I have been living in Chiriqui for ten years now and I dont regret.
Boquete is a very nice village, half an hour from David the second largest city in Panama. Its quite cool (for tropics) but also little wet. It has many microclimates so you may want to check properly if want to buy a property. One our from beaches.
Last years government started a project for widening from two to four lane the road from David to Boquete and will give a further impulse to the community.
Volcan, much the same but little less populated by foreigner. Probably because of the little more uncomfortable road to David.
Many foreigner decide to live in David itself. Could be an option if you like to live in a city even if it is a small city. I personally dont like but
Then the entire surrounding if you want to get away from the mass. You need to see and be there and drive around.

Thank you for responding Flavio. Like yourself, I prefer not to live in a city. Being half an hour away from David is good news. Especially the fact that Boquete is about one hour from the beach. Would that be a Carrabean sea beach or the pacific ? And what exactly is the difference between the 2 beaches ? I hear properties in Boquete are quite expensive because there are so many expats living there. I realise that I will have to come and see by myself...things can be very subjective...I will look up Volcan and try to gather some info about that place. Thanks a lot.

We are on the Pacific coast. There are so many difference with the Atlantic coast. Yes you need to invest time in a journey. Boquete is a bit expensive but the rest of Panama is not anymore cheap anyway. Do not expect to buy propertyes for peanuts. Many web site sell smoke and dreams reality is another thing; but looking at the rest of the world I believe Panama is a good place.
