International Schools in Santo Domingo

Mb012120

Looking for any recommendations or information on private/ international schools for my twelve year old son in Santo Domingo. I only speak english so i'm having a hard time finding information, as well as pricing. He will be staying with extended family temporarily and I would like to try him in an international school to see how it goes. If anybody has any experience as far as thr enrollment process, registration under a family/friend, Does pricing vary based on if you are a citizen or just visiting? Is transportation included or not? Overall experience? I would prefer a school that teaches english and spanish, however, I am a single mom, so cost is definitely a factor. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Additionally, does their school year start late August / september like the states?

Welcome to the forums.  As far as I know they will register any student where fees are paid.  One question, do you need the school credits to be transferable back to an American or other school?  That will change your options.

No I don't need the credits to be applied back to school back home. I'm really just considering it, to expose him to his father's culture & give him more of an awareness of how other people in the world live. Let me know if you have any options for me.

I can’t help with schools, but I support your reasoning for this move. From my own experience when 10-12 years old in a different culture I can tell you this will develop a more open mind and view at the world and people. It is an asset that will last a lifetime. Just make sure he is stimulated to start this adventure because at that age it will be an adventure.

I agree. What an adventure for your child.  Next question, what are of Santo Domingo?  Getting from one end of the city to another for.school can take 2 hours each way.  Most do not have transportation as such but you can arrange this.
