Puerta Plata or Santa Domingo...Which one for New Year's?

We are planning a trip to the DR and trying to decide where to go for NYE...any suggestions on where would be the best experience: Santa Domingo or Puerta Plata?

My vote would be the North coast for sure (yes I live here on the north coast). Especially in Cabarete which is a short distance from most of the AI resorts in Puerto Plata. There is one AI in Cabarete as well. Here the party is on the beach and the music and dancing goes on all night with a terrific fire works show over the water.

No you dont the party in Cabarete is on fhe beach...

Absolutely not. IN fact most folks visiting Cabarete rent vacation condos.

The party on the beach draws folks from all over the area.

Great, sounds like beach party it is! Thanks for the help!! We are planning on renting a Condo/Apt in Puerta Plata and venturing out to Sousa and Cabarete for the night life :-)
Any other tips or insights are welcomed! :-)
