Retirement residency renewal -- proof of bank deposits

wondering9

One of the requirements to renew a residency permit is to prove that you have been depositing the minimum amount ($1500/month) into a Dominican bank. Can anyone who's done this recently say how many months of bank statements are being required? Or if this is stated explicitly somewhere on the Migración website (I'm guessing it's not, though), a link to that would be great, too. Thanks!

Just went thru this , they asked me for 6 months, additionally,  they require the bank stamp on the front page and will not only accept the bar code banks are now using.

They also want to see transactions that you are using the money to invest back into the DR. Examples; Electricity Bills, Phone Bills, Credit Cards, etc.

They requested 6 months of one those statements and with company stamps on each page. Now, I hear some need it and some don't ask.

Better to have everything incase they ask.

Best of luck

I have renewed yearly for the last 7 years.  I'm on a Pensioner visa and have only been asked for bank info on the initial application, never on renewal.  I'm not sure if the Investor visa has different requirements?  On the first renewal I had all the bank info prepared to submit, but it wasn't required.  I think they printed out 3 months of statement and charged $200 RD for the pleasure.

That is very similar to what others have said. Be ready with 6 months of "evidence"

UncleBuck

I should also add that when I renew online, I don't choose the "Retired and Pensioner", but the "Temporary Residency".  The Temp. Res. has no requirement for banking info, but does require the Repatriation Insurance. The Pensioner renewal says it requires 6 months of banking info.  I would think if you are using your local account to pay for services and groceries, just the statement would suffice.

When I did my first renewal online, I chose the Pensioner visa and submitted all the info and the application stalled for a while.  Had a friend call DGM in Puerto Plata and was told to re-apply under the Temporary Residency category and the process moved quickly.  I have done that every time since, and had no issues.

To planners point...just be prepared to present all documents , banks, statements,  etc . Better to have all of them just incase. There are many times  no full consistency process with DGM and inspectors. Now with lawyers handling cases it can be totally different requirements. Good L7ck!

Thanks, everybody; this helps a lot! I'm glad the most anyone has been asked for is 6 months worth of records as I initially had some bumps in the road getting my banking set up.

One follow-up question: the lawyer I worked with on the original residency application said the only financial documentation I would be asked for at renewal was bank statements -- that all I'd have to prove was that I deposited the money in the DR, not that I spent it here. Is anyone renewing a PENSIONER'S residency experiencing otherwise?

I'm still paying for some things via a US-based credit card, and quite a few day-to-day purchases (smaller, but they add up) via cash with no receipts, so I'm wondering if I need to revisit that.

@wondering9

Yes , I just went thru this and yes they asked for a utility bill of sort of 6 months with my renewal. I also think its on the DGM website.

7-  Bank certification and transactions of the last 6 months  of the account registered in a national financial institution where the income is being received.

8- Documents that prove that he received and spent his income in the national territory , for the same period of time that the previous residence was granted, for which purpose the interested party must provide with a spirit of freedom of proof, whose admission the Dominican immigration authority reserves the right to evaluate, any document tending to demonstrate it, such as: copies of credit card statements, housing rental contract, payment such as educational services of dependent children, water, electricity, telephone and any

@Christopher David 56 just to confirm: for a retirement/pensioner's residency?

Jennifer Storm Nelson

I appreciate this conversation. I just had my first consultation with immigration lawyer Lishali Baez yesterday. She suggested I apply via the pensioners residency, so now I understand these six months of deposits that you're talking about. I will officially start the process in August and move in early 2027. See you then!

Thanks for the updated information.

(never mind, the post I was resonding to changed)

When we renewed in August, all we had to provide was proof that we had 6 months worth of pension in our bank account (with a bank letter) since we had not anticipated renewing and had not been transferring our full pension amount each month. Nothing else!

ondami

@CHRISTOPHER DAVID56 what happens when you buy a house and are no longer spending $1500 or more per month when your renewal comes up?

Currently we’ve been paying our Dominican landlord since July; however, the payments have been going to their bank account in the US because that is where they live.

CHRISTOPHER DAVID56

@ondami

Unfortunately,  I would not be able to answer that question as that's more  for someone that deals with DGM legally on Residency.

However, if you have a monthly cable bill, electricity bill of 6 months that you can provide may help.

I'm not sure they are looking for you to spend 1500 every month back into the DR economy just more you are still getting paid 1500+ and spending portion of it back into the DR monthly. Again,  assuming....I just provided feedback based off my personal experience renewing under retirement residence.
