Deceptive Ads Allowed By Google, Beware
So it's obviously no accident that when I open up my notifications I also see a deceptive ad telling me that I have messages.
It would sure be great if there was something that expat.com could do to get Google to stop this:
I highly doubt Expat team can follow up on your request, get yourself an adblocker OB and be rid of those pesky ads.
Your photo is the first on ive seen since I installed an adblocker.
I'm sure Jigs knows a great adblocker as he uses Samsung and is mainly on his phone, I'm 99% on computer so dont know the best one for Android.

Hey Google, expat here do you mind turning off ads on our site? Hahaha
Alternative, stop all ads and pay membership fee... Which goes against the whole idea behind Expat..
Install Adguard or use Firefox mobile + uBlock, no ads anymore!

I learned many years ago to ignore these. Never open anything you are not sure about....
Install Brave browser - its awesome features are what you need.
Every one of you guys is missing the point.
This is not about me learning how to avoid these ads (which I know how to do).
This is about (hopefully) the many new yet unsuspecting customers who come to this website daily and then get snared by an ad because they don't know the interface that well.
There has to be a way for the webmaster to give some sort of feedback regarding inappropriate or deceptive ads.

Two things, so far and I could be wrong I have never seen anyone new users complain about ads. I myself without using adblockers have not experience these, the only annoying pop up I can remember is that pesky expat survey.
Secondly, most users new or old are aware that all "free" sites will have some promotional adverts, how well they fit the site and misleading content is part and parcel of the internet bring largely free.
I'm sure others might have different experiences with ads/message alerts but these are just as likely to be linked to users own browsing history...
Microsoft are a set of utter *%**% which is why I use Google products.
Not that Google aren't a set of utter *%**% as well, but they generally do it with less hassle to internet users.
Sad as it is, this is a world where you need money to live so the site has to make some of it in order to survive.
Look - It's this or Facebook, but at least we ban all the scammers and other assorted nasties.
I'm so good at ignoring ads I no longer see them at all. This was demonstrated when I had to read the opening post twice in order to see what he was talking about.
"You have an alert" might as well be, "Hi, I'm a Nigerian scammer" for the amount of attention I give it.
We live in a sad, crap internet world were big business and scammers are getting harder and harder to tell apart, so that just leaves ignoring them totally. The really sad part is we can't really do without the former.
On a more positive note, Julien may be able to specify some ads can't be shown but, as I said, big business and scammers aren't always separated by much.

Lazada, shopee, Cho Tot,YouTube, Vnexpress and just about every site you go on has those ads its how they make money by people clicking on them it is nothing new with Expats it's the reality of the world we live in everyone and every site is after making money it's why they put the ads on popular places.
Our twins aged 7 made a Youtube page their number 1 reason was to try to make money to buy lego.
OB you aint gonna get away from those pesky ads anytime soon and everyone from aged 5 up knows they are there.
On the bright side you must be having an amzing time and stress free if thats your problem for today
Andy, dude, don't get me started on Youtube ads.
That set of utter *%**% have absolutely ruined the platform with their policy of annoy users into buying premium by infesting the thing with ads.
As I don't like blackmail, I polished my middle finger until it was especially shiny, then uninstalled Youtube on everything.
That lot can go and *%**% themselves. That's one part of their 'service' where the do bug me worse than Microsoft.

I think we need a whip round for a care package for Fred - a giant box of Valium or a case of booze may settle him down again.
Take a deep breath Fred it's only the interweb it doesnt matter.

Exorcism sounds more appropriate, everytime he sees a Google sourced pop-up or and douse him with cold beer

I know this will be hard for anyone who has read my profile to believe, but I don't drink booze.
