Is the cable broke again?

Budman1

I'm on VNPT down here south of Can Tho and my internet connection has been giving me fits all day. Even my trusty 3G USB stick isn't keeping a connection. I switched out my modem boxes also. Anybody else have a problem?

That's great customer service. Who's your ISP?

l3ully

Nope, we are normal VNPT customers. They only change the routers, if you kick them enough.
We get from VDC 2 and VDC 3 infos, as we host a decent number of servers there.

Here, we have no problem in Q.5 too. Viettel Wifi

Maybe there's problem with your outdoor cable. Call VNPT and ask for fix asap. Not advertising, but whenever I call to Viettel ISP, the repairman will come within 4 hours, good service :-)

My VNPT internet is working well.

There are five submarine cable systems now landing in VietNam, which are AAG (Asia-America Gateway), TGN-IA (TGN Intra-Asia Cable System) & TVH (Thailand-VietNam-Hong Kong) landing at Vung Tau Landing Station, C2C & SEA-ME-WE 3 cables landing at Da Nang Landing Station.

Vung Tau Landing Station
The TVH (Thailand-VietNam-Hong Kong) and the AAG (Asia-America Gateway) cable systems land at Vung Tau Landing Station.

Da Nang Landing Station
SMW3 (SEA-ME-WE3) cable lands at Da Nang Landing Station.

One of the problems is that VNPT is reluctant to switch from the cable they are partner in, to a competitive cable even temporarily.

You most likely have noticed VNPT hasn't offered refunds for the downtime periods. I am presently discussing with VNPT Ha Noi just how much refund I will get. It's not the amount - although have the highest speed - it's the fact VNPT doesn't give a damn.

If your InterNet cable feed fails, switch the modem OFF, except for times you check the feed, as they can see cable use more easily this way.

Of course the Ha Noi >< Hong King land cable has been down since the Spratly Islands became a point of contention between China and VietNam.

I used 3G until recently and found that in the An Phu area of district 2 it was very patchy with frequent down time.

We moved to D8 in April and had Vietel fibre optic broadband installed. It works very well. Most of the time. But there are frequent down times. However it isn't that expensive and by paying 6 months in advance I got two months free. And as someone else mentioned, the cable problem - off shore Vung Tau apparently - means that international traffic can be slow at times.

Budman1

Well what ever the problem was it's back to normal. Thanks for everybody's responses.

There used to be a problem in HCMC where the internet would be disrupted for a time due to "rain". I investigated this and it seems that heavy rainfall can slow down the radio waves that take the internet traffic via microwave link or satellite link. When this happens, synchronisation is lost temporarily and data transmission is disrupted. It doesn't seem to happen very often in Saigon these days though.

When I lived in the Solomon islands we were totally reliant on a satellite link for emails and data xmission. And boy does it rain there! Consequently every time it rained we had no internet at all.

The fishing was good there though!
