Out of the country notification questions

qnbui

Hello everyone! So I'm about to move to Da Nang in a few days and making sure I notify all of the banks and agencies of me  being out of the country. I'm going to notify my banks, credit card companies and money transfer services like (Wise and Sharemoney).

Questions:

1: Do I tell them I'm moving out of the country and would that cause an issue or do I just tell them I'll be out of the country for an extended time?

2: Since I'm not at the age to think about collecting Social Security, do I still need to let the Social Security Administration know that I'm leaving the country?

Anyone else you can think of that I should notify?

Thanks for any inputs!

"Extended travels" is the description of my status that has been working for me since 2018.

As long as you are also maintaining an address at a USA relative's house, you shouldn't have any problems, except possibly with PayPal.

Just do any PayPal transactions through a VPN.

Social Security Administration would only cause a problem for you in the future if you don't maintain a USA address.

As long as you've set up your USA phone number to receive text notifications for verifications, you'll be ok

Thanks OceanBeach!

Reached out to my first bank and used the extended time and they said they need an end date. They set me up for 6 months but said I need to reside in the US for 6 months out of the year for me to keep my account.

Each bank has their own regulations, however...

I personally wouldn't "reach out" to any bank or Credit Card company.

I do all of my travel updates via financial apps.

Some accept 3 months max.

Others longer, usually no more than a year.

I set a calendar reminder for when it's time to renew my travel notices.

My way isn't the only way, but I've managed to keep 2 US Bank cards (Visa & MasterCard), 1 Discover card, a Charles Schwab account (with Visa debit card) and a PayPal account with PayPal Credit active since 2018.

The only time I "reached out" to anyone (PayPal) the person on the phone was forced to tell me my USA account would be shut down if they suspect I've relocated outside the USA.

I recommend not putting them in the position where they must read the rules to you.

Cheers!
