I am also hopefully retiring to Chiang Mai next year. I have visited 24 times I think now, the next visit is 2 months over Xmas this year.

Chiang Mai is a beautiful city.  For those looking for the sex trade, BKK and Pattaya is where to go.  Chiang Mai is a wonderful place to raise a family or retire.  If you are single, a nice furnish studio can be had for $175 usd, street food is cheap and healthy and plenty of activities to do.  There is even an expat club there.

Hoping to move there myself and would appreciate any help from expats in Chang Mai. Am a 66 yr young single Australian and would appreciate a contact so I can catch up when I come over in Nov 2013. My email is  ;  winners@adam.com.au

I live here in Chiang Mai. I assist expats for visa and accommodation plus giving you cultural tips for integrating to local community.

Chiang Mai is called "The most splendid city of culture" Chiang Mai people are unlike from many people of other parts of Thailand in term of we are very proud of our culture.

To live here, one tip I can say " Westerner think logically and systemly, but we think emotionally"

So hearts comes first. You need to learn this to not upset people and understand them as well as they are willing to be friends with you.

Your husband is lucky to have a job, maybe you can work in same company than him ?

As you know to be able to work in Thailand you need a work permit and a visa, and there is also a list of job prohibited to foreigners ( you can find it in this forum : https://www.expat.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=143921 ), also there is constraint for company to recruit foreigners as for each work permit they need to recruit 4 locals people, plus a minimum income which is higher than local people too..

You did not say in which area you are looking for a job, which diplomas you have, etc...as more guidance an be given to you about company which might recruit foreigners.

Many foreigners are teachers but priority is given to to those with english mother tongue and the right qualifications.

first about working with my husband it's not easy , as we're a total different field .
my major is interior designer , but i can work as a assistant i have two language , arabic and english along with excellent computer skills .
is that easy to find a job with these qualifications ?

Thailand is a country where priority is given to local as they are cheaper to recruit for same level, and company has too many constraints to recruit foreigners as explained previously, for that reason it is very difficult for foreigners to get employed in Thailand unless they are very qualified or specialist in a field where there are no Thai to compete with.

Check with your husband the type of company ( Thai company or B.O.I ) who recruited him in Chiang Mai, and the salary they offer to him versus the minimum requirement for work permit which depends on nationality.
