My name's Shane. I am a Zimbabwean national (unfortunately) but have lived in Australia and South Africa for most of my life. I completed a Degree in Commerce in 2013 and travelled a bit more since then.
I always wanted to stay in Asia for a few years as it'd be something new, hence why I am here! I'd ideally have a job lined up, that'd be ideal.
I have mainly worked in consultancy, HR, CRM, digital marketing and teaching (DJing, music production, audio etc)
Anyway, it's nice to say hi! And hopefully I'll meet some new friends along the way.

I am now retired from 1st career at 44 and financially comfortable with my own business ticking over in the UK. I am divorced and open to new relationships in a different culture.
Would love to spend half my time in Thailand and enjoy the fishing and that lifestyle for the latter part of my 40’s. Had a couple of great breaks here many years ago.
I am hoping to come over in August for a good look. I am interested in animal welfare and the dog rescue work in Koh Samui and the animal sanctuary in Hua Hin.
I am starting my research on visa options and Covid-19 impacts on Travel to Thailand this weekend.
Any advice on places to go, fishing and keeping out of trouble re the local social life would always be appreciated. Would be helpful to do as much remotely as possible.
So far Koh Samui and Hua Hin are on my radar.

I am 58 year old American-Israeli independently employed. My first, and very urgent question, is this. Where are the best neighborhoods for expat communities in Patong Beach? I would like to get away from the Bangla area where I am staying for the next week or so.
Also, what other towns have strong expat communities?
How do I find someone to help me look at condos and check out places? I am feeling a bit lost.

@teoselmersv Hola! Como estas? My name is Jack and I'm from New York City. My brother married a girl from Spain, so most of my house is in Spanish. The nannies were so expensive, even speaking Spanish only, that my brother got a Polish Nanny that speaks Italian. My grandparents were born in Italy, and Italian was the first language I learned. So in my brother's house, where I go to stay when I go home, there's a terrible mix of English, Spanish, and Italian...
I have also been here a while... 2005 I moved here permanently, but I also did about 5 years and last and 4 years in Cambodia. I've been back in Thailand since 2016.
I'm an American lawyer, and my wife's a Thai accountant, her brother is a Thai lawyer--we created our own firm in 2017 (NAPA Business Solutions).
I find it a little bit easier to make friends with people that have been here for a few years already. Sometimes the rookies annoy me a little bit! I know, I used to be one! But I prefer hanging around with the veterans.
My Thai language skills are terrible. I only really study the language when I lived in Laos. And I got pretty good, but then I moved to Cambodia for 5 years, and lost so much of what I learned. And then I came back to Thailand, and now I speak an awful mix of Thai and Lao that is not Issan, just a bad mix both languages. But I can get by!
I'm new to this forum.
I decided about 10 years ago that I was not going to make close friends with my clients. I found it just to be unprofessional, in the end. Some socializing is fine, but getting tight with my clients was unprofessional and caused me some problems.
Right after the pandemic hit, I got rid of my office and we work out of my home. I have a relatively big townhouse Prawet. And it's great.
But it gives me no opportunity to meet people! All of my close friends from the last 10 years are in Laos or Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, etc. We were all consultants, and moving around is part of the gig.
But it is left me as a two decade Southeast Asian rhetoric with almost no friends in Bangkok!
What do you think of this forum? I'm not sure how I feel about it yet... I'm also a little concerned about the security, but then again I'm a paranoid lawyer...

I am retired and am devoting the future to playing as much golf as possible, exploring beaches, working out and enjoying all the new cuisine I will discover in Hua Hin and the surrounding areas.
I am planning on renting for the first year to get my bearings and then buy a property that fits my lifestyle.
I hope to meet some fellow golfers on here , as to hit the fairways upon arrival. Any information about golf courses in the Hua Hin area as far as playing and maybe living would be greatly appreciated. See you soon !

@JacktheLawyer i think you are a very successful lawyer, certainly sure living in Bangkok mostly have few friends they even no greeting each other, everything changed rapidly sometimes can make you feel bored or sick of things easily but I'm sure the annoying, worrying or desperation not last long. let's travel and relax..

I'm a 49yo American planning to move to Bangkok in January 2023. I aim to be in the Bang Sue district (specifically TaoPoon) to rent for a year before committing/buying. My girlfriend is a Thai national, living in the area, and our purchase will be for investment. My priority at the moment is securing employment. I've got primarily customer service management experience. I 'm currently a human resources coordinator at a major hospital in Florida. Is it most practical to get a US remote-based job, or to actually pursue employment in Thailand? I left high school early, working my way up without ever having earned a degree, so the ever-popular teaching route is likely off the table.
I can't imagine I'm the only one who's ever sought advice from this forum with the same or relative circumstances. I sure would appreciate any insight you all could throw me.

@hunterjinx You do not need fancy qualifications to get teaching jobs here. However you will need basic training which can be gained in a few months. Best to get them in the USA first. Obviously the best universities and international schools will cherry pick highly qualified and experienced teachers but there are opportunities for others albeit for lower wages. You must be aware that you will need a work permit to get employment and there are only a small number of jobs that you can get work permits for. You need to get acquainted with this list as it will help you focus on how your skills can best be utilised.

"Basic training" won't get anyone a legal job as a teacher in Thailand anymore. It doesn't work like that now,but years ago it did.
