Hope to arrive late May / early June for 3 month (+?) trial

Intl guy jim

Greeting all!  Jim here.  I hope to arrive in Thailand for a three month trial, with Hua Hin as my target, based upon what may be out of date information (just posted a question to that effect elsewhere...)

I'm retired, after a career that took me all over the world, including four times to Thailand.  The first I was able to take a week off work before heading home, and explored Chiang Mai back in '91, but didn't go trekking as intended due to a severe cold.

I am multilingual, and would intend to add Thai as a (starter) 6th language with studies during my time there.  I lived half my childhood in two countries in Latin America (completely bilingual in Spanish, my second language.)  That made it easy to go a little off the beaten track in my first two "retirement exploratory" visits, Mexico and Argentina.  I enjoyed both, but there were things that didn't click.

I enjoy music (blues/jazz/R&R, classic, tango, bossa nova, etc.) and a wide variety of sports.  I could swim before I could walk, so being close to the ocean again will be an anticipated pleasure.  In Argentina last year I started recovering the golf I last played in 1972, but not the tennis I also quit around the same time.  I won't list the many others, other than to say they are not the traditional team sports most Americans play growing up.

I hope to get active in a range of activities that do not involve sitting in a bar.

I hope I can find someone able to first confirm that Hua Hin still offers the things that made it sound attractive (my other post), and suggest where to look for a quiet, beach front apartment at a rational cost.

I look forward to meeting all of you in a couple of months!

Have heard a lot of people recently rating Hua Hin as a retirement destination. Maybe Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Pai might be worth a look depending on what you are looking for.

For other coastal areas than Hua Hin maybe Jomtien, Krabi, Rayong.

You're absolutely right — Hua Hin is becoming huge for retirees due to its relaxed vibe and great healthcare. Chiang Mai and Pai are classics, though the 'burning season' (smoke) there can be a deal-breaker for some.

I’ve actually been looking into these areas myself, not just for lifestyle, but from a business perspective. As a web developer here in BKK, I’m seeing more and more small businesses and boutique hotels from Krabi and Rayong reaching out to get their SEO and websites sorted for the international market.

Thailand is so diverse, there’s really a perfect spot for everyone depending on what they value more: mountains or the coast!

Yeah absolutely.
