Hello

I have lived in Thailand for 16 years. I am married to a Thai woman and we have a 12 year old daughter together.

I am a former financial advisor.

I am interested in Crypto and financial stuff in general as well as world political madness.

Hi!

Moving to Thailand from the USA this year.  Single retiree over 60.  Planning to settle in Jomtien.  I have a short time to complete the rest of my preparations before I land in Bangkok this July.

I have a wide variety of interests and passions.  Hoping to meet and chat with expats who have made the same decision to move to SEA and live a little!

Thanks!

Dennis

Hi,

Leaving the USA to move to Thailand mid-2025.  Never been there before.  Long story of how, why, etc.

Figuring things out to try to make my landing smooth.  Between now and July I have to learn more about visa's, opening a Thai bank account, and the like.

Will be a retiree over 60 with adequate finances to meet the 800K THB and the monthly income requirements.

Hoping to learn a lot from this site and experienced people, and maybe make some contacts and possible friends when I arrive.

Will land in Bangkok and stay a week before heading to Pattaya for a spell until I find a 1 year lease in Jomtien.

I hear I can get 30 day tourist visa upon arrival, and an extension shortly after that (don't know for how long), which I hope gets me through until I take up residence in Jomtien to apply for a long term visa.

I'm counting the months!

@TenaciousDB

Starting July 15, 2024, U.S. citizens are entitled to receive a 60-day visa upon entry to the Kingdom of Thailand for the purpose of tourism, business engagements, and urgent or ad-hoc work.  This visa category can be extended for another period not exceeding 30 days.

Dear Sir, you may learn more information on the website below.

https://th.usembassy.gov/u-s-citizen-se … americans/

So; you have 60 days up to arrive day + 30 days extensionist

One more option, after that you can went out of Thailand to travel some other country nearby as such Vietnam, Cambodia, Lao and you can reenter (you can verify this information) because i don't have real experience but i heard about this

Wish you all the best

Have you come to Thailand yet?

dirkennenbach

Hello, my name is Dirk and I come from Germany.

I'm married with my Thai wife since 12 years, still living in Germany.

The plan is to live our life half in Thailand and half in Germany.

This will happen in a couple of years.

But I guess it's a good idea to get to know some guys in the community already now.

About myself: I'm retired, but still work for my company some hours a week,

I can do this work in Germany or Thailand as well.

My hobby is to cruise with my motorbike - maybe within a little group.

When we settle down in TH our place will be around Suphanburi.

And I like Live Music - one of the amazing things I can easily enjoy in Thailand.

So - that's for now,

I hope some of you guys will answer...

Regards Dirk

Hi everyone,

My name is Anthony. After studying English and Italian at university and working for several years in hospitality, I'm now making a career change into English teaching.

I recently completed a Level 5 TEFL (RQF) certificate and I'm interested in teaching English abroad, especially in Thailand. My English proficiency is at C1-C2 (near-native) level.

I've joined this forum to learn more about life in these countries, administrative procedures and job oppotunities, and I'm looking forward to sharing experiences with other expats.

Thanks for the welcome and see you around the forum !

Hi,

My name is Steve, I am from the UK. I am moving here in 2026 as I am only just starting to build my house.

I was in the Army for 22 years and on leaving I began a house building company. I am about to retire. Just to endear myself to any Brits, I support Manchester United FC .

Steve 🙏😘💕

@darrylreeves55

Where are you from originally?

daviddomoney

Which part of Thailand are you planning to move to? I'm a Man U supporter also looking better now for us!

Welcome to all new members! Let's connect and share our experiences about the beautiful Thailand

daviddomoney

Surin is in Isaan?

steventusz

@daviddomoney

So I'm led to believe. I have checked around and it appears to me that people look down on Isaan, or I may be completely wrong?

daviddomoney

Not sure can imagine it is a nice relaxing rural place. Not been up there would like to check it out at some point

steventusz

@daviddomoney

It is really chilled where I am, nothing like the Bangkok side. It's still fairly modern in places, although the village I'm in

can shock you with the lack of modern accommodation to say the least. I'm going back to the UK in 2 weeks and returning in April for Songkran Festival, my house should be well on the way to looking finished, well I hope so?

Steve

daviddomoney

Sounds interesting and Isaan food is the best! Hopefully so!

@dirkennenbach

Dirk,

Good luck with everything,
