LTVP & PMLA

Alsonleys

Hi All,

Here to sought more advice and if anyone have similar situation would like to share.

Me:

Age 30

Education Bachelor Degree

Income 25k/monthly (With CPF contribution)

Wife

Age 33

Education Bachelor Degree

No Income

My wife is currently 6 month pregnant and reason why we didn’t apply this earlier was due to complications with MOM and eventually appealed successful.

So now have applied for PMLA while waiting for ROM then eventually LTVP.

1. Would she be able to extend her STVP while waiting for ROM & LTVP application?

2. Would her being pregnant affect the LTVP application?

3. Would her lack of income negatively affect the LTVP application?

4. Anyone know the average timeline for PMLA & LTVP, online stated 1 month for PMLA and 6 weeks for LTVP. Would it be faster/slower normally?

As its nearing her due date, im worried that the LTVP will not be in time for her delivery, in this case would she be able to give birth in singapore? As we would be already ROM-ed by then.

Appreciate any advice or people with similar experience to shine some light on this

Although you did not mention your nationalities, I assume you are Singaporean and your wife-to-be is foreigner and currently visiting Singapore on an STVP (1-month visitor visa), but not residing in Singapore. If this assumption is wrong, my answer below does not apply.

PMLA is merely a pre-assessment (before marriage) on whether she could get an LTVP after marriage. It is optional, but may smoothen the LTVP application process.

Please note: If she ever held a WP (Work Permit) at any time in her life, she needs MoM's prior permission to marry you - she will NEVER get an LTVP (or any other long-term-visa), if you marry without MoM's approval! (Is this what you mentioned as "complications with MoM"?)

Now for your actual questions:

  1. If her reasons for staying longer are deemed sufficient, her STVP could be extended. The second month is easy to get, a third months is only given in exceptional circumstances (e.g. medically unfit to travel due to the pregnancy). Waiting for the wedding is probably not a valid reason, I think, but it's worth asking ICA. If she overstays her STVP, she will not get an LTVP (or other visa), so DON'T!
  2. I do not know, sorry.
  3. LTVP holders have no income by default (as they are not allowed to work). Thus that is not a problem. Your income is considered (but at S$25k/month, that shouldn't be a problem).
  4. These are the average processing times. Individual durations can be shorter or longer.

If your baby is born after marriage within Singapore, it is automatically Singapore citizen and can stay on. (If it is born after marriage outside of Singapore, you can apply for its citizenship if you want to. If it is born before the wedding, it will have to leave Singapore with the mother at the end of her STVP validity.)
