Car ferry, Taloot to Tagbiliran, any experience?
I'm looking to take my Gal to Bohol for her birthday. We live in Argao, so the nearest ferry is in Taloot.
- Has anyone taken this ferry?
- How early before departure do we need to be there?
- Do we need advance tickets for the car?
- What paperwork do I need to bring the car?
Thanks for any guidance. Not finding the most accurate/clear info online.

You left out number 5: Do you need life insurance? An emphatic yes.

No, we'll both be dead if anything happens.

If you do get life insurance, say in the US, you must report that you are living in the Philippines. Living here is a much higher risk than living in the US and they might deny you; if you do not report it they could simply refund all premiums paid to beneficiary rather than face value of life insurance. Beware of false sense of security and do not use home address if you live here.
I asked about the ferry ⛴️. Not interested in insurance scams.

Sure but understand that threads create new threads. Too bad but that's life in the big city 😂
And where the heck is Taloot? I never saw that place as a destination to or from anywhere. Is that a barangay (not a city)? Good luck on that 😂
Taloot Wharf is near Cebu and there is a crossing by ferry to Bohol. I found information online including the two sailing times per day and the journey duration, I would just phone the Ferry Company and they will be able to answer your questions 2 to 4.
@Cherryann01 I think as it's only 20 mins or less from Argao proper, (we live south side of Argao) it's kinda called Taloot, Argao. But you're right. I should've been more specific about the location. Not going to the Ferry in Cebu City.

A refund would be good news for me, I purchased whole life insurance when I got married to cover my final expense. I know whole life is a poor choice but it was reasonable considering no medical & my age.
At the time I believed it a Good Bet not believing I would live so long. The actuary tables for people my age indicates I will be paying for eight more years.
Cash out is only 50% of face value.
I might add at one time I had term insurance, initially it was cheap, but each new term 5 to 10 years it got more expensive. You have a choice pay the increase or cut the amount to keep the premiums similar. It reached a price that was really high so that I went many years without life insurance (also taking into consideration I was now single)
Sorry for the divergence LARRY but life insurance is more interesting to me than a ferry question while drinking my morning coffee.

Larry - If you are having problems finding the information you need on the internet, it may pay you to just drive down to Taloot Wharfe. They must have some sort of office down there and even if you cannot book your tickets there, you could ask your questions there. They will be able to tell you the name and details of the Company or Companies that operate the ferry, their contact details (website, phone number) and the people down there who supervise the loading of the cars onto the ferry will certainly be able to tell you how early you need to arrive before departure and what paperwork you need for the car.
They may also tell you if the ferry departs on time most days and might even let you go on board and have a look around for ten minutes or so before the ferry departs for that days sailing.
And Larry I would book a single rather than wasting money on a return. I'm sure they also have a kiosk there selling life insurance.
@Cherryann01 That's exactly what I did. We drove down there today. No ferry when we were there. But it leaves twice per day. 3am and 10am. They only take 1-3 cars because truckers have priority. First come first serve. Suggested arrival with car, three hours before departure to have best chance to get in. Cost for small car and driver = P2030, Passenger P200, P230 if you want a bed.

Glad you got it sorted Larry although the 1-3 cars could be a problem. Best to book early.
Good info, Larry. I never even knew there was a wharf there. We have a place in southern Cebu and that could be handy.

You mean be in line early. Heh. Ain't no booking here.

Did you ask how many cars usually show up each day for the ferry. Might be useful to know.
The ferry service is significantly degraded since the pandemic. Fastcraft schedules have been cut back, but at least you can still book ahead. For RORO, you just have to show up and wait in line, and there are fewer booking agents so lines can be long. What I have been told is they lost so much business during the pandemic, that they have had to cut staff to stay afloat (pun intended).
@pnwcyclist Would I generally speaking be better off going to Cebu City (2+ hr drive) to go to southern Bohol? I assume the Taloot ferry is not a roro of the type roro ship I worked on back in the early 80's. Enclosed roro deck etc. But more a barge style with open roro deck and a house to wait inside.

Given that, I wonder if the gross weight limits prescribed by the PPA for vehicles on Ro-Ro's will be adhered to. If a large HGV breaks loose in stormy weather the whole vessel becomes unstable

Oh gosh, I think I would take the Taloot ferry direct. It's a straight shot across vs driving into that nightmare of Cebu traffic, then dealing with all the hassle at the pier. Plus the RORO from Cebu City takes you to Tubigon (or used to), in the far north of Bohol. Mind you, we have done it a few times but it's a longer trip. From where you are I would def take the short direct route to Loon if you can.
You will need the OR and CR for the car.

I never trust that vehicle weight limits are adhered to Lotus. But maybe they do. We often take the Liloan to Sibulan ferry (Santander, Cebu to Dumaguete) back and forth, which is a RORO, and sometimes the deck is packed with large trucks, as it is the main driving route between Cebu and Negros Oriental. And because of that, the nautical highway in Southern Cebu is absolutely trashed from all the heavy vehicles - the potholes will swallow a car.
