Can I get driving licence?

I don't think so because you would not have an pass in your passport that would enable you to swap your UK provisional licence for a Malaysian provisional licence.

No you would need a reason to want a Malaysian provisional licence and having no pass i.e. EP, SP, or LTSVP would mean you would only qualify to drive on an international driving licence, as you would be classified as non-resident. The DVLA website has something on it but that is about coming to live in Malaysia when last I looked and not as a tourist.

Thank you very much for the help, it's a shame I won't be able to get one in Malaysia  but guess I will attempt to push forward my driving test here in the UK

I guess you are aware that you can only be in Malaysia for a maximum of 90 days as a UK citizen and would need to exit and re-enter for it to be increased. A valid reason for returning immediately  is likely to be requested.

If you need to travel around, buses are very very cheap. It would make renting an expensive alternative. But it depends where you plan to visit or stay, as public transport can have thin coverage. All the provincial towns are very similar. The best beaches (islands) are off the east coast.

I'll be staying in Kajang in a fairly  isolated community but shouldn't be too pricey getting taxis to KL (I think around 30-40rm last time I was there), just pretty annoyed at myself to leave driving test so late when my friend would have let me borrow her car. I briefly looked at the visas you mentioned that would allow for a driving license but don't think I'd qualify for them
