Committing to renting or buying accommodation when youre new to or have not moved to Japan just yet is always a stressful endeavour. Would you like to help us in putting together a handbook of what to look out for when house hunting in Japan?

What are the most common scams in Japan?

What are the red flags to look out for when scanning through adverts?

Is there a list of registered or accredited landlords or real estate agencies in Japan?

What authorities should be sought should one come across an accommodation scam?

Japan is leading the world in term of Trust.
So when you mention Japan .. scam is not likely going to be found among them.

For foreigners that need accommodation, it will be adviced to get ‘house agent’ that speaks English.
Also house owners that are foreigners friendly.
They will be able to explain details of the rent contract.
Contracts is mostly for 2years except for short stays
1 year in some case but must be spelt out at the beginning.
If you break the contract you will pay fine.
If you leave the house damaged you will pay for repair.
