DustStorm, the Clouds Obliged, SunSmiled- Moods of NewDelhi Weather

WarmFriend

NOTICED the new leaves sprouting on trees.... on many trees...  even the beautiful picture they made when streetlight made a green beautiful umbrella shining through the still thin leaves... then the moon 2 days before was looking sooo silvery in seemingly a darkest hue of the "blue"... the Venus looks sooo near in the evening sky as though come down to say "hi"...   sky has been noticed to be strikingly the best hue of blue in the daytimes....

Then there was a darkness 2 hours before sunset today, when I enquired if it was cloudy outside all of a sudden?, was told by my employee that he received a call from our hometown more then a 100 KM away in the west that his family engaged in harvesting had to stop doing work because a severe dust storm interrupted them...

got all excited at the prospect of witnessing the "now a days rare" nature's fury at play.... actualy went out when the dust storm attacked... soaking in the beauty of nature creating darkness during daytime...like a child liked the cool air hitting me & the thin layer of dust deposited on my arms, hair, face & the crisp white summer shirt I was wearing... the thin dust particals that the storm pickedup on its journey from Thar Desert- the land of my ancesters...

....later when the dust storm subsided, the rain cloudes running closely behind them sprinkled the land in New Delhi as though doing their job of keeping the skies & air "clear" in this season, stomping the dust to ground....

Creating a perfect evening weather for a warm cuppa tea with windows open bringing in cool breeze mixed with the fresh smell of wet soil outside, the sound of raindrops falling, the sound of gusts of wind angrily banging against mother earth & all that is embeded in it.. the swoosh sounds when the fast winds go through dancing trees....

later while going outdoors again, leaving for some work, saw the brightness within the dark clouds just where the Sun should have been, stopped to see if the Sun will breakthrough & create a spectacle...

The CLOUDS OBLIGED, obliged like a Proud Artist- Showing just a bright diamond at first & then beautifully moving away in such a manner so as to create a perfect Smile with the lower part of the disc of Sun... & then stayed like that for sometime to let it be soaked in, acknowledging the reflecting smiles of people like me for enough time to even let me collect my wits & comment to the person standing next to me to stop SMSing on phone, turn & see the "Smile of Sun" if not witnessed before....  making her burst in laughter at the spectacle & at my stupid fixation... & the Grand Master then lifted the veil off Sun in a swift movement...  shining a beautiful disk within the dark dancing clouds...

....for reasons best known to the Clouds & the Sun, they together hatched a conspiracy & kept an open window for Sun within the dark dancing clouds arround....  for a long long time ,teasing the observer....   daring me to leave the spectacle & go about doing my thing....   ....& creating one of the best sunsets in New Delhi today...

(as observed from sector C & D Vasant Kunj)

News reports in Times of India today says the wind speed was 100 KM per hour at IGIA International Airport yesterday. Vasant Kunj being on the east of airport just where the Airport neighborhood Commercial area of Mahipalpur ends, so it must be the same windforce experienced.

Its still nicely Clouded today giving a pleasant weather. Such weather would come again only when Pre-Monsoons lash Delhi sometime in late May.  & untill then it'll be the Famous Indian Summer in Delhi.

Or maybe we'll have another spell of Duststorm followed by cool showers weather phenomenon before Summer sets in....?

Only the Master Choreographer knows what his plans are....

Spot News from New Delhi :

Lord Indra was here in New Delhi for the weekend with his entourage of Fairies from heaven !!

Indra known as King of Gods, but more appropriately the King of the Heaven as per Hindu mythology, also known as the God incharge of the Department of "Rain" & Clouds....   decided to visit New Delhi this concluded weekend.

(The 1st city that was constructed at the spot where New Delhi stands today, was named after the King of Gods- It was known as "Indraprasth".

It is said that the Capital at the time was Constructed by Pandwaas of the epic "Mahabharata" fame. Incidentally rainbow is called: Indra-Dhanush in Hindi i.e. the bow of Indra.)

How else would you explain the the continuously pleasant weather phenomenon that started with a thunder, cool showers, pleasantly cool winds on tuesday evening & continued the pleasant weather with intermittent rain/drizzle without clogging dDelhi roads with water, & nice cool breeze & no humidity at all to feel any discomfort.....

Looks like he had ordered to make advance arrangements to prepare the Ambience for his Entourage to arrive on weekend... Beautifully executed !!  :)

& looks like they left after morning time today... leaving a pleasant afterglow !

by the way my employee is damn bugged with Indra for not letting his family do the harvesting, by keeping the soil wet, as the harvesting can be done only when the earth is dry.

I've tried to tell him that it seems like the guys left this morning...

:D

"He will spoil the wheat crop"
:   (an angry voice on the street)

"He will destroy the farmers..."
:(another dejected angry voice as though replying & reflecting the 1st)

Both the sentences overheard in passing "in unison" pressed a Pop-up in my brain....to think....

WHAT  ???

these two sentences in quick succession in northern India are uttered only & only when......   Talking of "Indra" the God of rain, the King of Heaven, the King of Gods themselves

I immediately looked up towards the sky- Not a Star to be seen.... & Yesss Indra's forces were back !!

I had got down from my car to buy some cigarettes near Madhya Pradesh Bhawan in Chanakyapuri. It was a silent night, not a leave moved, absolutely still & that's why could hear the two voices clearly from far away. (The time about 11 - 11.10 p.m. this monday night.) Were we in the eye of the storm?

The whole sky had taken a darkest hue of Orange.... reflecting back the Orange lights of New Delhi's mighty & Vast street-light network system....

Within minuetes there was a first gust of wind warning the trees to bow in salute to Indra, they obediently complied making a deep whoosh sound announcing the arrival of the forces of  The King of heaven.....  then silence as it was before... as though waiting with bated breath thestart of the orchestra.... not moving a leave like rehearsed disciplined soldiers....

The first light sort of dancing, the smallest raindrop possible started.... HIS Orchestra had began playing his latest Show in the Capital....

Smiling at his gift I got back into my car to proceed on my way...

then I remembered the oft repeated two sentences at the time of Harvests whenever Indra decides to play mischief.....

& I felt Guilty....!!

When we the city people would be blissfully sleeping, happy at the good weather, the tired folks in the villages would be having tension filled sleepless night.... they have been going to the fields everyday checking the soil if it was good for harvesting.,. Contemplated all day what to do looked at the sky & the ready crop before their eyes..... the crop that would give them & their children the wheat for bread for whole year, & fodder for their cattle for half the year....

they have vivid memories of their ready to harvest crops flattened "No good" by Rains or hailstorm or high wind force so many times.... they pray for just 5 days of clear weather...

They would be getting up in the night when it starts to drizzle waking each other up to untie their livestock from open air to the safty of a roof lest they fall ill....

& I couldn't  smile anymore thinking of the children sleeping in their rag-tag attires, their parents holding dreams for them.... they can work towards those dreams for their children once the harvest reaches under roof making them free from worries reagarding one year's bread supply....

Children's new clothes budgeting will be done  weather they would get some new toys or will that be postponed till the next harvest.... will the marriage take place after this harvest or will it be postponed till the next....

Budgeting exercise is over for Govt. Of India done by our finance Minister in the delayed March Budget session of Parliament, the Corporates are on the verge of completing their budgeting if noot already done after financial year closing on 31st March.... their exercises are based on rational figures......

But the Budgeting exercises for each village household is in limbo.... it is yet to take place.... & IT WILL, but an unknown quantity has to be factored in before that.... but the most crucial quantity..... :- the INDRA Factor...!!!  Indra will decide what the Budget for each household will be like ....!!

How they would be laughing their bezt jokes, how lightfooted they would feel after taking two days nap once the harvest is indoors.... how energetic they would feel on any topic any task...  how some old enemities have a chance to be resolved in that overall positive atmosphere.... & the harvest is good this time.....

I look upwads where Indra would be consorting with his heavenly fairies, not knowing weather my quite voice will reach him or if he would bother...

I ask him:-  look we city people can easily do without the luxury you are bestowing on us... but the other India can not do without their "need".... we wouldn't even thank you for the luxury or even remember you, but they will thank you & thank you from their heart.... so think about them & do for them....

I did my Karma...... Indra will do his Karma as he thinks fit...

[above is THE insight into the oft-repeated 2 Indias]

Have a nice day !

:)

Indra does'nt want to leave the city that was first named after him....

The King of the Gods went away for 3 days during "Akshay Tritiya" to heaven (must have been some marriage invitations in heaven he couldn't refuse) Akshay Tritiya is one of the 2 most auspicious days in a calender year for marriage in Hinduism (at least the practice that I know in north India) this year it was on 23 April night & 24th April as per our moon calender.

He gave those 3 days or maybe by default the farmers were lucky enough because of Indra's pre-engagements in heaven to be able to harvest their crop of wheat....

But he did'nt give full 5 days of dry weather....

The resul was that the farmers who were harvesting manualy could just cut the crop & nothing more.... so the crop is still lying in fields & gets wet each time Indra's forces pass by.... & the farmer has to wait for it to dry so that he can continue with his harvesting procedure.....

But soon as it starts to dry , it is wet again the next day....

They are so wet now that they Would require full 5 days of dry weather now before it is of any use....

Indra is not relenting.... YET

We even had unprecedented foggy mornings (for late April) on thursday & friday..... the visibility at IGIA Airport was down to 500 meters.... & the procedure for foggy landings had been switched on for both these mornings....

today we had a full sunny day & I assured my employee that its finaly over ( just to pep-up his mood)

But now this sunday night HE IS BACK !!

The high winds... the clouds.... the cool breeze.... the occasional rain drop on the cheek....

I will have to face my employee's accusations tomorrow, as though I am responsible for bringing him back....

Long Sigh......

Naughty INDRA....!
