A great tip for you, join shanghai dolls, it's a site for expat women, i met some great friends on there.
They do lunches every week, meet for drinks, and explore the city.

I have a few friends still over in Shanghai that i could forward your message to if you would like. They are always looking to meet new people and they helped me settle with my move. Shanghai is a great city but so much more fun with friends to share it with.
