Some suggested don'ts for living in Niger:
1. Don't expect things to change quickly, they won't.
2. Don't comment on the poverty you see in Niger to other Nigeriens.  They will not appreciate your observations, as they know the country is poor.
3. Don't instantly trust the first people who come to your door unannounced and want to befriend you or ask you for help. In general, the best way to find Nigeriens to trust is after you've spent time with them with little being exchanged but conversation and tea.
4. Don't gossip or complain about some Nigeriens to other Nigeriens.  Chances are, they are related.

There's nothing easy about life in Niger---and I feel that way after living here for 8 years.  What's your biggest challenge right now?
