Carte de Séjour

pakola2333

Hi friends,

Has anyone recently applied for a Carte de Séjour in Morocco? I received the list of required documents, completed everything, and then went to the police station to submit my application. I was told that I cannot apply if I don’t work in Morocco.

This has been very stressful. I explained that I have a remote job, a Moroccan bank account with sufficient funds to cover all my expenses, and a U.S. passport, but I was still refused. I really don’t want to leave the country because of one unprofessional police officer who may be giving incorrect information. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

Slip him a 1000 dirham and you’ll have what you need. I have heard from several Moroccans that this is the the way to get things done. You gotta pay to play

That’s actually incorrect.

Residency procedures in Morocco are legal, formal, and many foreigners obtain their Carte de Séjour every year without paying anything under the table.

If one officer gives wrong information, the solution is to ask for a supervisor or simply go to another police station. Corruption is not the “way things get done” here, and spreading this idea only creates confusion for newcomers.

I have been stopped multiple times by gendarmes over lies about not signaling or going over the speed limit. It all goes away when money is handed over. I know you have an agenda to keep up appearances but I don’t sugar coat anything and people need to know the good and the bad.

I fully understand what you’ve experienced, and no country in the world is free from such contradictions. However, these remain isolated cases that should not be taken as the norm, as they reflect the behavior of the individual, not the institution. Personally, I always prefer relying on the law, as it is the true guarantee of everyone’s rights. Thank you for sharing your opinion.
