Moving back home after 7 1/2 years in the UK

Hi I'm Christina!

I've been living in the UK since January 2000 and am looking forward to moving back home to OZ at the end of the year.

If anyone wants any advice please feel free to email me. I've enjoyed my time here in the UK but have to say I'm looking forward to the lower crime rate and definitely the sunshine in OZ.

The UK has also allowed me to travel loads. Turkey, Greece, Austria, France, Germany, Holland, Switzreland, Tenerife, Egypt and Africa.

It's not until you move to another country and experience other cultures that you realise how lucky you are coming from Australia and also having the option to go back.

Now that I'm pregnant (due in 6 weeks) I've decided at the end of this year my husband and I will move back to Australia as we feel it's a better place to bring up kids.

I've also set up a website pegog.com which was only launched on Friday which provides an easy way of ordering gifts for loved ones living in Australia or the UK. It's a free service allowing you to view products from over 60 retailers and will save you loads in postage costs so if your sick of paying international postage costs please take a look and let me know what you think. I'll hopefully be expanding to include retailers worldwide over the next year.

Thanks Julien,

I didn't know many people when I moved to Manchester but seem to get on with most people so made friends easily.

I also went to Salford University to study so met alot of people there.

I wouldn't say the move was complicated, I don't think I would have lasted so long if it had. The biggest thing for me, has been getting used to the crime rate. My house has been burgled 3 times and my car set on fire outside my house. I wouldn't say I live in a completely rough area 'Walkden' and all the surrounding homes are privately owned, however it isn't the best and I certainly wouldn't want to bring my kids up where I live now which is why were moving back to Oz.

I really love traveling and think that I will miss this the most. People who live in the UK are so lucky to have so many different places to visit all within a few hours, 6 hrs at the most.

I have my house on the market at the moment so will hopefully sell soon. Knowing my luck we will have to move shortly after the baby's due.

where in the UK did you have so many problem with burglars?

I really love traveling and think that I will miss this the most. People who live in the UK are so lucky to have so many different places to visit all within a few hours, 6 hrs at the most.

If you like traveling, then I am sure you'll travel again one day! In the meantime, you can travel by reading Expat.coms

All my problems have been in Walkden, Manchester, M28

Parent's just don't seem to care where there kids are and they always end up hanging about the streets, driving mopeds and drinking. If you say anything to them their likely to rip your wing mirror off which has happened on more than one occasion.

The next town Little Hulton has a reputation for drugs and there seems to be quite a few bad estates as well.

Unfortunately our property is within meters of a beautiful park and this is where the kids and drug dealers hang out. You'd think living next to a park would be a good thing, or that's what we thought.

It makes me soooooooooo mad! Especially when my partner and I works so hard to get the things we want and then people destroy or steal what you've got.

I'll definitely travel again. Nothing would stop us doing that!

Your right, in the meantime I'll just have to be satisfied reading other peoples adventures. Looking forward to travelling around Australia too when we go back. Absolutely love camping!

Hello, I hope the baby arrives safely.
I don't want to live in the UK again. France has it's bad side but our health service is OK.
We have been burgled too even in this small town so we had to put up an alarm system.
My son lived in Manchester a while back and said there was plenty of drug dealing in Whalley Range too.
The main problem in the country at the moment seems to be the price of housing.

Good luck with your move back to Australia and with your new website which I have added to my favourites. It seems like you picked a bad area to live, maybe you took "The rough guide to England" too literally?
There are places here that no way would I move to, The crime in certain areas of Brisbane and Sydney, if the news is anything to go by is pretty bad at the moment.
The great thing is that you have a choice, you can come and go as you please.
I left England in 1990 to live downunder then went back to England in 95. It took two years before we realised where we were better off (or was it two years to save enough money for the airfare)
So here we are back downunder.
I think you have made a good decision, plus by having your baby in England he (if it is a boy) will be able to play for England in the Ashes!
