Absolutely NOT.

Only the authorised custodians of the law such as the Royal Oman Police and the Ministry of Manpower officials can demand to see an expatriate's Resident Card. And only they have the power and the authority to retain the same in case of any requirement.

Since an expatriate's resident card is his / her sole, indispensable and requisite identification document in a foreign land, taking it away from the expatriate would amount to robbing the person of his /her very identity. And that is not to be allowed or tolerated at any cost.

The security guys at the malls are nothing more than 'Watchmen' or 'gatekeepers'. They intimidate expatriates by demanding to see their resident card, while by law, they have no right to do so.

If you have been subject to this kind of an 'abuse', then you can report the same to the mall management and also to the ROP (unless you were caught shoplifting !!).
