New Expats Gathering !!

anyone interested on organizing any gathering for all the new expats ?? please do leave some comments

As long as its open to locals as well and as long as the locals are not 300 people trying to sell  me property.

Eodmatt, you worry them keep asking you buy property ?? Lol. Actually anyone also can join as long we will have a decent organiser

Have you seen the latest real estate trend in Saigon?

Standing in the bike lane waving promotional flyers, these people basically make you drive in the car lane just to avoid them.

I am not worried about people trying to sell me property I merely find it irritating

Im waiting to read on the VN news service that one of them has been run over.

Sounds fun .. i dont have much to do on my free times anyway :|

Ok....Yogi has first bid.
10.2 bill,  and we'll negotiate on the furniture.

Do you want USD$, Gold , or SWIFT bank transfer.

Ok Yogi, it's all yours - furniture, fixtures and fittings included!  Payment any way that suits you best, but a wheelbarrow full of cash would be nice!  Offer expires as soon as we both wake up!

I'll see Yogi's bid and raise you a metric ton of kippers and a braking system for a Vietnamese moped (its a left flip flop).

Incidentally, did you know that flip flops were invented by that famous French inventor M. Phillipe Fellope?

Forget that other blokes Kippers, they've been in the sun all bloody day.

I've just sent the CASH around with a Xe Om guy.   He's a nice young bloke, should do the right thing.    He plays cards all day at the local Bia Hoi, hasn't got a job , so I've slipped him a few dong to cover his petrol and buy a few beers.

Just stand out in front of your place and keep an eye out for him.    Pretty easy to spot,   About 5 foot 4, dark hair, brown eyes & of Asian appearance, with a big smile.

No need to count the money, it's all there.

Ignore him - I'll throw in a couple of used Lettre Française as a show of good faith.

Will you lot stop peeing about.
I hid the post because I thought it was serious.

Now I look a prize twit.  Grrrrrrr  :one

I've been standing out near the main road for a while now but, apart from beginning to smell a tad fishy, the only thing that looked like it might be a payment of sorts was some guy in a "Grab" helmet whistling past at 100kph, waving a wad of dong (sadly no wheelbarrow), shouting "I love silly foreigners"! Obviously nothing to do with this thread, so I went back to sleep!
Btw, Kingzchock, can I recommend a weekly organised meeting of expats (and locals) as the HashHouse Harriers - "drinkers with a running problem". See saigonhash.com, or vungtauhash.com if, like me, you prefer to spend your expat retirement with a fresh sea breeze every day!

Oops, sorry Bhavna - just a bit of fun prompted by the comments about Saigon real estate workers/contractors waving fliers at passing traffic. But my post was actually a genuine description of our house for sale in Saigon, so thanks for highlighting it and I'll list on the appropriate page as soon as I can get home and type on a laptop with more than 1 finger...........

I'll tell yer what, my missus wipes the floor with these (bloody) property sellers. We had a raft of them snapping around us when we had an apartment for sale and the sheer unadulterated bullsh.t that some of them came out with to try to get us to appoint them as agents was incredible.

There are many aspects of property law in Vn that these so called property agents don't know about and you can get into a whole heap of bother if you don't know either. One example recently quoted elsewhere on here was about apartments being sold, which the property developer had mortgaged at the bank. As soon as the developer got the money from the purchaser he disappeared with both loads of dosh, leaving the purchaser to repay the bank mortgage.

And that's what would have happened to us too if my LHD hadn't shoved a "no encumbrances" document under the developers nose for him to sign when the apartment was bought. Basically this meant that the apartment was bought with no liability to pay off any third party mortgages or loans. But quite a few people get caught with that trick.

And even more people will be caught in the near future as the property bubble here expands to bursting point.

Thanks for sharing this useful bit of info eodmatt - Thank-you kindly sir! These rookies are unbelievable!  :dumbom:

Well done with shoving the  "no encumbrances" document under the developers nose ! I bet that must of hurt abit!! - at least they know not to try it with you! Well done !  :thanks:

Having a gathering without such rookies would be much fun ! - Hope the gathering comes together and people here can have a fun time! Good luck  :top:

Do yourselves a favour - buy our house! (see "Houses for sale, HCMC").

Would love to join if there is an expat meeting

Any reason to organise Expat gathering?  Sell house or apartment?? LOL

I personally can't see the need to organise an expats gathering when expats already gather every Sunday afternoon outside the Caravelle at 1.45 pm for 2 pm departure on a Hash House Harriers trip - lots of fresh air, exercise, free drinks and socialising. See www.saigonhash.com - On On!
But if someone is keen enough to do it anyway, then why not arrange it in Tan Binh district (maybe the big park at the junction where NKKN meets Cong Hoa on the way to the airport - hop and a skip from Vinmart aka Maximark) and we'll show everyone around our house for sale while it's happening! (see "Nice, big house for sale 2 km from airport" in "Houses for sale - HCMC" this website).
Sorry if I've broken the posting rules - I'm an opportunist!

Good idea,

House for sale..............?  Can you send me the details, I'm an opportunist too in a good way.  Would be happy to meet fellow expats too , as suggested by you.

My pleasure: https://www.expat.com/en/housing/asia/vietnam/

Fresh air in Q1 eh? Do you receive it bottled or in cans?

Not only did you break the rules, your group has two tier pricing which is an ethical no-no in my book.  Bad enough that we have to put up with it from hospitals and government owned destinations, we don't need to perpetuate the practice ourselves.

linhmartin, you have been found guilty of a breach of site ethics you are to write out 1000 times: Ne praecepta confractus locum By tomorrow morning or we'll cut yer balls off.

eodmatt - the Hash rarely if ever stays in District 1, for obvious reasons.  They meet outside the Caravelle to catch the hired bus to a different destination outside Saigon each week.
Thagv, don't know what you mean about "two tier pricing" (our price is clearly shown as 10.5 bn negotiable) - please explain?

eodmatt - Ego autem non conteram praecepta dentur.

Thigv - sorry, misspelt your tag (but still curious about the "two tier pricing" allegation?).

Ah, sorry Thigv - now I realise that you're talking about  the Hash, not our house!
Firstly, Saigon Hash is not "my group" - I helped to run the Vung Tau Hash for 6 years until recently, and our pricing was different for adults and children.  If you also call that "two tier" then so be it - but we didn't (and still don't) think it was fair to charge kids as much as adults because they don't drink as much!
All Hashes are run independently, it's not a franchise, and I have nothing to do with Saigon Hash other than being aware of its existence.  But I'd be surprised if you find their reasons for different prices are not based on the same principals of fairness, ie men generally consume more than women, foreigners generally consume more than Vietnamese, etc.

I'd better correct "principals of fairness" to "principles of fairness" before I'm tarred and feathered by the English teachers!

Hmmm.....what are ya's gunna do with his nuts. 😳

I don't think Yogi will be ordering steamed dim sims anywhere around Tan Binh in the foreseeable future.
