Hammertime,

Reading blogs and connecting with people on forums are a great way to start.  atruetalltale.wordpress.com  Any questions feel free to ask.

Which forums would you suggest. There are so many bloggs and websites it's a bit over whelming

Heres a good one to start. Just kinda navigate around the site. If you go to the top, you'll see some drop downs. It's fairly active, with daily up dates.
Good Luck in your journey!
Neil
PS. This is a blog by an expat that is very straighforward. He writes well, in a some what somewhat tongue in cheek manner, and does not sugar coat anything.

Hammer,

It depends on where you want to live,  each section of Ecuador seems to have a forum about it.  Manta, Cuenca, Quito...  just get on there and people are usually very friendly.  Also facebook is a great way to connect.  But be careful a lot of people will try to sell the new gringo in town something...

hello,

check out this website mantasosguide.com very friendly site
click on the expats link if you need expat info

take care

EcuadorExpats on facebook is another good source of information.

In Cuenca there are "gringo nights" and bars where you can meet expats.  Sorry, don't go to them so I am not sure where/when.

Try the expatexchange.com ...but bring a raincoat --- we tend to sling mud with our information...

And do read blogs.

Also go onto Facebook and type in Ecuador.  A lot of expats have hooked up through Facebook to share info on a daily basis.

I noticed you posted a couple of years ago so I am not sure you are still checking in on this site, but if you are I would like to know if you have made the move to Ecuador, and if so what would you say the top considerations should be for a person such as myself who is considering a move to that country upon retirement in less than 3 years.  I'm not even sure yet which would be the best city in which to settle.
I would also like to establish some good relationships with other expats in Ecuador during the next 3 years.
Thank you in advance.
