Most of the Chinese took a hike, or otherwise reduced their visibility after the 1979 invasion by China into the border regions of VietNam.
There are a few Chinese restaurants, run by Chinese, in the capital.
Even in TP HCM there is prejudice against ethnic Chinese by the Vietnamese and they aren't shy of voicing it, either.
