SIGHTSEEING IN JEDDAH - PLEASE HELP

Hi Everyone :0

I have a day off every week and would like to spend my time NOT shopping LOL. I need a few tips on worthwhile sightseeing trips in and about Jeddah? I will have a driver but will it be okay to do the trip on my own? I believe the laws are not THAT srict here in Jeddah...

No problems for you to go out and about by yourself by way of laws - but there are some areas where it is better to be with someone else - although your driver could perhaps escort you.

As for places to go - we've done a lot of exploring of the Jeddah area by simply driving and saying 'think we might go left here' - albeit with a GPS so we can find our way home - but I'm a little hard pressed to think of too many 'sightseeing' opportunities, but here it goes:

1. Al Balad. The old town is interesting - but would be better if you could find a guide to explain what things are etc. We did a tour in there and found it fascinating.
2. Souk area in Al Balad - I know you said no shopping but this has to be seen to be believed - although it is best seen at night and I would definitely go with other people.
3. The southern, southern Corniche - there is a road that lies south of the port that also runs along the coast - on google it looks as though it drives on the Red Sea! There is nothing much there but the contrast of mangroves/sea - barren sand is interesting
4. The fountain - again best seen at night

Thanks I 'll try out the suggestions! :0
