We can finally enjoy the beach! While beaches are not crowded due to the picnic ban as well as the cold water, we thought we would give you a few secret beach spots to enjoy the turquoise waters.

North

The North of the island is well known for its dreamy beaches. Who has not spent a day lazying in the sun on the Pereybere beach or at La Cuvette. But if they get crowded, there are a few spots you can enjoy far from the crowds.

An amazing beach corner is not far from the La Cuvette public beach. It is accessible by walking on the rocky waterfront on the right when you arrive on the beach at La Cuvette, behind the Coast Guard office. The secret spot is found behind a hotel so it is not a public beach as per but you are allowed to leave your stuff on the rocks and swim in the clear, blue waters.

Another one is at Bain Boeuf. While on the road between La Cuvette and Bain Boeuf, just opposite the hotel Nitzana, you will see a little corridor leading to the beach. There are houses on these beaches so, once again you will not be able to have a full on picnic but you are allowed to leave your stuff on the beach and go for a swim. There is a similar corridor in Pointe-aux-Cannoniers leading to a similar beach. Both have amazing views on Gunners' coin.

South

In the South East, there are a few beach spots that are usually less crowded, although not entirely secret. Pointe d'Esny, for example, is an amazing beach where you can have a little picnic and enjoy a swim. La Cambuse is also a popular spot for Mauritians although there are little nooks on the beach that you can enjoy all to yourself. Although the sea can be rough there at times, you can definitely enjoy a little swim if the weather permits. Le Bouchon is a similar setting. Both can be found on Google Maps.

East

The East is too often underrated for its beaches. And there are quite a few secret beach spots too. Most of them can be found by venturing over the limits of the public beaches. For example, when you get to Palmar public beach, keep walking to your right and you will find the best beach spot. The water is blue and clear and the sand is dreamy. The beach is in front of a hotel and you can also see a few tourists basking in the sun or enjoying a volleyball game but it is all fun and games!

There is a similar beach at Belle-Mare. The bathing area has been cordoned off to indicate where the best swimming spot is and the water is truly the most turquoise you have ever seen on a sunny day.

West

The West is full of little secret beaches. The most accessible ones are behind hotels in Flic-en-Flac. Especially at the moment, the beaches there are deserted because hotels are being used as quarantine areas. The hotels are cordoned off and of course, you cannot venture above these areas. But who needs a lot of beach space when you have an amazing view on Le Morne mountain. These are amazing areas to watch the sunset from!

La Preneuse is also a less popular beach but also offers a good swim. Not only on the public beach but also further to your left in front of the beach houses. It is not unusual to see people enjoying jogging or walking their dogs at sunset.
