HelIo,
I am Cheryl from the USA.
I have a large DVD/CD collection that I would like to bring to Costa Rica when I move (hopefully within the next year!)

Does anyone know the best way to store media discs in the San Jose climate, i.e. paper or plastic sleeves?

My husband lived in Houston and there were issues with bugs ruining paper in that climate.

Thanks SO much,
Cheryl

Avoid paper. You will be best off to use the space bags and then put in sealed tubs. It kinda overkill but then if they are important, avoid the bugs and salt air❤️

I put my cds and dvds into those folders that are some type of poly/plastic covers with soft plastic or synthetic disc holders inside. So far - 5 years - no mold. I have a folder of 100 and another of 200. I also have cd's stored in just platic boxes with lids to keep the dust out. No paper inside, only discs and those soft-plasticy disc half-covers.

Avoid cardboard and paper all over Costa Rica, for storage of ANYthing.

Cardboard and paper will eventually absorb humidity and smell musty / moldy even if they don't mold.

Even tho air tight, air and moisture get in to most "air tight" containers and you end up with moldy or at least very musty stuff.

For example we put our underwear, tshirts, socks etc in plastic "boxes" that are open on top and have big holes on the side. That helps keep them from molding during the long rainy season.

So, to clarify:
*clothes and other moisture-absorbing things in open style boxes, not closed.
*cds and dvds in mostly air tight boxes or folders but no paper inside, just the discs and plastic (hard or soft plastic) disc holders.

As a rule of thumb, if it CAN absorb moisture, it will.

IF you have a good dehumidifier and/or use ac and keep your home closed up tight all the time, then the above *may* not apply.

Thank you so much for your answer!  I have been trying to get an answer to this for a long time, so REALLY appreciate all the info.
Best to you!
