Just on question 5, 1808 (the arrival of Dom João VI in Brazil), 1822 (declaration of independence) and 1889 (proclamation of the Republic, which is still to be implemented!) are among the important years in Brazil's history.

For anyone who would like to learn more about these dates, I would highly recommend Laurentino Gomes' books, appropriately named 1808, 1822 and 1889, which are a light and entertaining read full of well-researched information about these events.
