IT startup - what tax obligations

Post new topic

Leonard Opitz

Hello,

I am thinking about creating an IT startup in Germany. What are the tax obligations of having a company in Germany, apart from:

- Tax declaration at the end of the Fiscal Year for IRS (IRC)
- VAT declaration every 3/1 Month

Is it mandatory to be registered in the commerce chamber?

Thanks,

Germany is unfortunately not among the easier places to start a business.
You definitely have to register the business (and decide which legal form to choose), keep proper financial records and submit tax declarations - for which you should engage a professional start-up consultant, accountant and tax adviser, as these things are basically impossible to do right without near-native language skills (and penalties for mistakes are stiff).
The start-up consultant will be able to tell you whether you must join a chamber of commerce or other trade body, and which certifications and permits you must acquire. There are likely to be several.
