How to save money in Gambia

Hello everyone,

Did you plan your budget before your move to Gambia? If so, how did you go about it?

How do you save money in your day to day life? Do you find there are any areas where you can't cut costs?

Do you have any tips about saving money in Gambia? For example, getting the best deals on accommodation, grocery shopping and dining out, the best value transportation, etc..

Are there any apps or websites that have helped you to save money?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Priscilla

One of the biggest costs when visiting and moving to the Gambia has been transport.  I saved so much money once we brought our car over and this took away the stress of different taxi fare charges.  Another large expense is the government Taxes you have to pay as a non citizen of the Gambia, e.g. residents permit, expat taxes etc.

Purchasing land or property is another big expense and can vary greatly.  The group on facebook 'Gambia land issues updates and advice for expats' has a lot of information which has helped.  We cut costs by buying locally sourced fresh produce and have started our own our vegetable garden.  For the long term savings we are installing and supporting others to install solar electricity and borehole drilling for our fresh water.
