Speaking Portuguese in Sao Tome and Principe

Hi everyone,

It is widely agreed that speaking Portuguese is essential for a successful integration in Sao Tome and Principe. Do you agree? Share your experience!

Do you speak Portuguese? If so, where did you learn this language? Where can one attend a language course in Sao Tome and Principe?

If not, how do you cope with daily activities? Is it easy to communicate in a different language with Sao Tomeans?

Thank you for sharing your experience.

agreed, without Portuguese you'll pass a hard time in .st

of course there is an intellectual elite and people indeed speak English and French as well... but that's not what most people want to be limited to; and if you say "integration", than there's no way around it

look for courses in the Universities, perhaps Alliance Française, Centro Cultural Português... or hire a private tutor - these are just hints, as I speak Portuguese I never was really interested in knowing where to learn it

a good travel guide for São Tomé: Bradt

good luck and have fun
