Planning on moving to Copenhagen

Hello,

Im planning on visiting Copenhagen in May of this year. I have friends that live there and i love it. Im applying for the green card scheme this month and currently have a Masters degree in occupational therapy ( USA). Based on the info i found online i meet all the requirments to get a green card. In case i do get it.. I know i have to learn danish which im willing to do :)
My question is what type of jobs can i get while im in school learning the language? I was thinking maybe becoming a caregiver for a senior citizen? I think i am qualified for a job like that since i work with patients with different disabilities already. If anyone currenly has a job as a caregiver.. Would you mind sharing your experience and how much do you make a month? Is it easy to find a job as a caregiver? Is the salary enough to pay bills? Any info is appreciated!
Thank you! :)

Hi CCtox

Those who work as caregivers in Denmark have a special social-health education (the socalled SoSu-uddannelse). It is an open question whether your education will be accepted (even if you have a master degree).

Some statistics on the pay:

Your expensives will depend on where you settle down. The Copenhagen area is the most expensive.

I would google some vacancy agencies (vikarbureauer) and ask some of them if you would meet their claims. I guess that they will tell you that spaking Danish is a must. And do note that almost all people in Denmark get free cure and help from the authorities, and that there therefore only is a minor market for private helpers. Remember that you have to meet an annual income requirement of 319,725 kroner (2015) due to the GC scheme.

I will absolutely recommend you to wait with the GC application until you have explored the possibilities thoroughly. Most GC holders will not be able to find a job here as the scheme is not an expression of labour shortage so it will be taking a risk.

You are so lucky that you have Danish friends. Discuss the issue with them before you pay for an GC application.

Best wishes,
Nellie

Thanks so much for your answer!
I am definitely waiting to see what job possibilities are for me before i apply for the GC. Im coming to visit my friends in May so ill do some research about jobs and stuff while im on vacation. They are also going to help me with job hunting but i wanted to get input from other people as well :)  I am aware that it could be difficult to get a job without knowing the language.. So we will see how things go! Thank you for the info provided!! :)
