Is it complicated to make friends in Copenhagen?

What would you recommend to people who would like to live in Copenhagen?

Thanks in advance for your participation

Hey guys,

To share my experiences: I write regularly about Copenhagen at  Brunch and Chow blogspot.
Ex-chef, socialiser, meal maker, buyer and supporter of local ingredients, budgeter, meeting new people ALL through food.

Right, answers:
1. How would you describe life in Copenhagen?

People in Copenhagen are probably some of the nicest and most outgoing in Europe. They are much like Australians in the sense that they enjoy good food, the sun (when it's out), a good drop of wine and they're lovers of art and design.

2. Has it been complicated to settle down, to find a job, and an accomodation?

Jobs
Well, the market is in a downturn and jobs are scarce.
I was fortunate to find work before I came here and I would recommend most who come to Denmark to have something lined up, but, saying that, for Australians, New Zealanders, Japanese, Chilians there is always a Working Holiday visa and you could put your faith in the service industry.
Settling in
Invite yourself to events. Join in networks you're interested in - I know someone who walked into an art gallery, put herself on the mailing list and she's met some really good friends (it's not me but good idea huh?)
Accommodation
Craiglist for short-term and the City of Copenhagen (København Kommune) is a great source of information.

3. Is it complicated to make friends in Copenhagen?

Things are as complicated as you make them. There are so many things to see and do that wasting time on the 'how' to make friends will probably make you none at all.
Come to Copenhagen and focus on the 'doing' and you'll soon get your network of friends.

4. What would you recommend to people who would like to live in Copenhagen?

Get your visa before you arrive. Don't forget to eat Smørrebrød. Come at the start of Summer. Enrol in a Danish language school. Buy a bike and visit the many galleries when you have spare time.

You're welcome to email me with any questions about Copenhagen or subscribe to Brunch and Chow's to tune in, keep up and hear about CPH from another expat.

Sneaky plug but I this is how you meet people too right?!

Might hear from you soon.

How would you describe life in Copenhagen?

Life is pretty much relaxed, not the hustle bustle of a big city I used to. It can be nice but can also be frustrating at some point

Has it been complicated to settle down, to find a job, and an accomodation?

Settle down is a big thing, I don't think I would be able to sum it up with a yes, it's complicated or no it's not. Finding a job is a Herculean task if you don't speak Danish.
Accommodation, well I live with my Danish boyfriend so I don't think I'm eligible enough to answer this question

Is it complicated to make friends in Copenhagen?

Depends. Foreign friends are abundant and easy to make friends with. Danish friends? Almost impossible! But I don't care anyway. Friend is a friend, no matter which country he / she is from.

What would you recommend to people who would like to live in Copenhagen?

Prepare for the culture shock, the demand from the Danes for you to dismiss your cultural background and adopt the Danishness and try to "forgive" the Danes bad behaviour for keep asking you to mimic their famous tongue twisting phrase "rødgrød med fløde"

Do check my blog at thewriterindenmark.blogspot.com to know more about what I THINK about Denmark

Alisha,
