Health insurance

Hi
I'm moving to Bahrain in a few months and I was told doctors bills are very cheap and sometimes free so I shouldn't need health insurance. Is that true??
Thanks

I guess you got this one wrong, doctors are not cheap here and usually healthcare (partly) is taken care by the employer (as a part of the employment contract). If your employer is not taking care of your healthcare then you will need a medical insurance for sure.

T&R

Well , to some part I guess health care is cheap .

Health centers are easily accessible and are cheap compared to "Private Hospitals"

My employer was the one who told me. I'm used to paying around $60 for a 15 minute visit to the doctor. So $20 is cheap to me. What do you usually pay??

A consultation can be between BD15 and BD30 depending on a GP or specialist. My son and I have both needed surgery here at a cost of around BD3000 each.

I feel your employer is telling you it's cheap so that he doesn't have to pay your medical insurance. I would negotiate with him to ensure you are properly covered.

Maids and low income people get cheap medical care at medical centres and Salmaniya Hospital but I prefer to use AMH

Ditto that.
The public health care system is a mad house really and the people you have to work with aren't always pleasant.

Any proper employer will provide health insurance. You should ask for this. Otherwise think long and hard before accepting the offer.

Proper health care is not cheap in Bahrain.
