I thought women weren't allowed to drive in KSA....

Anyway, I was wondering about that.  I'm waiting for a job offer currently and if I do accept any offer, I am contemplating on whether to go alone or take the family along...  I'd think my wife would feel like she's jailed.  How do single women get by anyway?  Do you guys have to hire a driver or use taxi?

enjangu

Some hire drivers.  I use a taxi.  They're cheap and not hard to find.  I've found that moving around the city is pretty easy.  But I don't have kids in tow.

enjangu

I don't feel jailed.  But I do feel discriminated against for sure.  It's really not so bad in khobar though.   Feel free to message me for more info.

Thanks.  Hope I get good news from the would-be employer.  I'm so split though.  I was just talking over with my wife about the female situation over there and my wife stopped me at no driving for women part.  She's not going lol.  She's quite an active person.  She's a stay home mom who racks up 150 miles/day of local driving every day.  Well, I'd think the compound lifestyle ain't so bad though if you have some friends...  I'd think most people over there would be longing for a good friend to chat with and making friends would be a bit easier than back here in states where everyone's just too busy with their own lives.

Sports, swim, wander aimlessly around malls, arts!, chill by the pool! Drink wine and listen to music. Watch a movie... Hey.........

I think this city is a very good place to become somewhat introspective.

If you like off-roading I would recommend the following book which provide comprehensive plans and lists attraction sites.
The book title is
Desert Treks from Al Khobar

Sounds like fun!! Thanks for the info. :)

Hi there,

If you want fun in the context of KSA, I think it would be the beach, coffee shops, restaurants, malls, and social gatherings, with friends and family.

:)

@Lovely_Guy: Could you help me with a copy of the Desert treks book please!

I have been searching for it for over 3 years now, the publisher has stopped publishing and its not available in Jarir. However, I do have my hands on the Desert treks from Riyadh, which has 7 overlapping spots.

I can take you to one of the lesser know spots for fossil collection (if you haven't been already) as a token of appreciation!

Regards,
Raunak

Hey there,

It depends on what kind of activities you would like to do; outdoor, sports or just hanging out and meeting new people. I love hanging out and meeting new people myself, so if you like we can try that.

Kind regards
