Jobs in Serbia

I am moving to Belgrade in 1 week. I have a teaching post but my husband who id travelling with me is likely to want to look for a job, possibly in a bar or similar. Does anybody know if this will be possible?

Hi Keden,

I guess it is possible... but the problem is that salaries in bars in Serbia are very low and also people tip quite poorly. If your boyfriend speaks good English, maybe a better option would be to teach English in some small private school that doesn't require some special certification or to give private lessons from home. I know some people who do very well by doing precisely that.

Anyway, since you are already in Serbia I guess, how do you like it so far?
My boyfriend is South African, also English teacher and he has problems adjusting and meeting other people, especially English speakers

Bests,

Lj

Thanks for reply. He is thinking of trying to teach English. I am lucky in that my job is in a British school and many of the other teachers are also British and everybody speaks English. If your boyfriend is living in Belgrade there is an international group on the web that organise events around Belgrade he might be able to meet people that way.

Hi Keden

Which international group you were referring to? Maybe you can pass me a link.
My boyfriend actually does't work as a teacher in Belgrade, but as a copy-editor which means that he works from home and it is really difficult for him to meet other expats.
Did your husband find a job here?

Regards,
Ljiljana

Keden,

I do hope your husband can find work.  Were you granted a visa with your job?  What about him?

Are you referring to Belgrade Foreign Visitors Club?  They have a page on Facebook, for those that are on FB.  They also have a regular website with a forum.

Also check out LivingInBelgrade.com and ambassador-serbia.com as both sides are geared toward visitors, but in different ways.

I teach English in a language school.  Most schools will not hire a teacher without at least a TEFL certificate of some sort.  I hope all things work out for you.

Hope you are enjoying Belgrade!!  I love it here!

Pozdrav,

Kiki

thanks for your support

Hi Anthon,

Welcome on Expat-blog! :)

I think there are lots of hotel in Belgrade. You should try a search on Google to have a hotel list (with their contacts details) in Belgrade and send them your application letter and your CV.

Wish you good luck in your search,
Christine

If you are realy serious about comming to Serbia today - do not do it. I am living here now and majority of people is seeking a ticket to get out of here.

Even you contract high salary it is very hard to get. There are much better ways, if you want to work in Serbia. Find a foreign company that want to come to work here. Make sure you contract slary payment out of Serbia and then, just then, you can realy enjoy working here.

Maybe you watched those guys that went to teach English in countries like Taiwan or china, but Serbia is not even close to it.

Belive me, how greatfull you can be, as I am telling you honest pure truth. Work only for US or EU companies, represent them here and you will win. Just by sharing this I am savong you thousand of your money and nerves.

I love my country, but situation today is pretty gray.

Opened from all you questions!!

Hi everyone,

My name is Aaron and i am a recently graduated civil engineer with 2 years experience working in the development industry, specialising in stormwater management/ hydrology / hydraulics. Im looking to move to Serbia sometime in the next 6 months, but am finding it hard to make contacts that may provide me with job prospects. I am very open to new experiences so would be happy with any job, no matter how low the pay (as long as its enough to live in Serbia). If anyone has some advice on how i could form some contacts in this regard, i would greatly appreciate your assistance.

Regards,

Aaron from Australia

Hello, I'm a new member and found some interesting stuff in here. I arrived in Belgrade a week ago, and I'll stay for quite a while. And indeed, I'm looking for a job as well.

My mother tongue is Dutch and I'm fluent in English and French as well. (I communicate on a lower level in German.) And believe it or not: I study Serbian on a daily basis.

I saw some interesting answers, but anyway more info is always welcome.

Hope to hear from you soon,

Karel.

Oh yeah, I'm a photographer as well, but I guess a job in that field would be tooooooooooo much to ask.

Hello kareldeg, you should post an advert in the Jobs in Belgrade section with details of your qualifications. It may help. ;)

Thank you,
Aurélie
