Hi,

I'm from the US and just arrived in BH after spending 10 months in Peru. I'm currently living near the center of the city in a small apartment with my girlfriend. I would love to meet the ex-pat community here. I'm planning on teaching English, and I'm also a musician so if anyone plays music or has advice about meeting other musicians in BH I would love to hear from you. Are there get togethers for ex-pats here? Feel free to contact me, I'd love to meet new people.

Best,

Nick Canby

There is an expat (English speaking) group that meets the 2nd Thursday of every month from 12:00-13:00 (and many stick around after that!).  The location always changes so we can check out new spots.

This month (8 August) we are meeting at the restaurant BELO COMIDARIA located at Rua Orange, 67 - São Pedro (Belo Horizonte). (here's their link:  http://www.belocomidaria.com.br/

When you get the restaurant just tell them to direct you to the English speaking group.  There is always new faces every month so  you won't feel like the "newbie."

Hope to see you there.

Hi Nick,

Douglas here....I am not in BH now, but welcome!

There is a lot of music, and a good number of foreigners in BH.  Do you know Bar do John?  It has a lot of foreigners.  Try Minas International...check Google for this contact.

Hey everyone! I've been living in BH for 2 months now, I'm originally from Florida. There is a community called real life English that meets once a month at a bar in Savassi. Join the group on facebook if you're interested. Its a lot of fun and everyone there is very welcoming. You have the opportunity to meet Brazilians who want to practice their English in a real life setting and also expats living in the city!

Welcome on board. I know you'll love BH and if you haven't already done so you've really got to take in the street market on Alfonso Pena on Sunday mornings it's super.
